Hi all. I've been playing my old student violin for a few years now. It's one of those inexpensive German instruments from the early 80's.* I've waited several years to decide to upgrade, partly to save up the money but mostly because it feels wrong to spend so much money on an instrument when I'm not particularly talented!
I mostly play Irish fiddle and a little bluegrass, but I still have some sheet music of classical pieces arranged for students that I like to play as well.
I've narrowed my choices down to the Fiddlerman Master or Soloist, or the Holstein (traditional) Panette, but am open to anything between ~ $600 and $1500. I had intended to set up appts at some violin shops, but most of them are a long drive from my home and with a pandemic on, I thought I'd try buying online.
I'd appreciate any advice!
*Okay, I peeked at the label: it's a 1982 Seidel. Anyway, it rattles and buzzes despite I've had it restrung etc. It sounds decent on the g and d strings, and even sounds nice on f# and g but...
