I've been really stuck on a decision for a while now between buying a Scott Cao 1713 Gibson 750/850 Series or the Fiddlerman Soloist violin. Can anyone post any pictures of the 1713 Gibson made by Scott Cao and what you like about it? Or the same with the FM Soloist violin.

Sincerely,

Pierre is definitely the most qualified to answer this question.  He's got both and he's played both and he won't steer you wrong. I've bought two fiddles from Fiddlerman and both times, I was impressed with what I got for the money I spent -- rare these days.

However, with regard to your question, I've wondered the same thing. I have seen the Scott Cao's played on youtube and they look and sound nice and just from hearing both played on videos, it sounds like a toss up.   Scott Cao is a highly regarded builder, but then GCV is well respected too. So...  No help there.

I own a Soloist and I can tell you first hand that it's a really nice fiddle and definitely worth the price. I've had mine for a little over a year and I don't think I'll ever need to buy another -- barring some sort of violin tragedy.  Whichever way you decide to go, I'm sure you'll be happy player and proud of your instrument.

Well, if all else fails, give them a call on their 800 number and if Mike answers, tell him you'd like to talk to Pierre.

Actually you don't even need to decide. If it's a toss up between those two, order both and ship the one you don't like as much back to us. We are running low on Soloist violins but we have some on their way. You might already know that we don't have the Gibson in stock now. We have plenty of STV750's and STV850's as well as the more expensive Scott Cao's but non of them are the Gibson replica. I called Scott Cao about that and they had at least one in stock if not 2. We would simply order it and ship both violins after the Gibson gets here. If you like, we could even dropship it to you but one advantage of having it sent here is that we look it over and make adjustments. 9 times out of 10 we need to do something...
Call Fiddlershop and speak with Michael about how we do the in home trial with two expensive instruments. I think this is your best bet.
