Just Looking Around SmileyIt's presumptuous of me to assume a song is classified as "Pop" when I hear a mix or influence of multiple music styles.  Like most things I enjoy, I wish I knew the correct terminology so to be able to discuss what I think... and not sound stupid!

Sparkling Purple Heart SmileyI have become obsessed with this tune!

You don't need lyrics to feel it's dark, kinda Country/Folk/Punk, but I'm pretty sure it's the Swing/Jazz/Blues is what's transporting me back to memories I still have of fabulous vacations in New Orleans!  ...but this group is from Portland, Oregon?

...so, WHAT genre is this?

Exclamation Point EmoticonsLook/listen to the "wicked fiddler" in this video (especially midway to nearer the end) - it's what makes me so obsessed with this song!  He's got the swing - vibrato, double stops, slides, improve and who knows what all, then POPS that harmonic on the E string!

Cool Dude Smiley Smiley  ...I wanna be like that when I grow up!

Warning - couple explicit words at the end of the lyrics.

Been trying to make the rounds on some of the earlier pieces I learned, so I'm back trying to polish up "Witches Wrath" to sound closer to the Bridge City Sinners fiddler.

But, FINALLY, I've solved the mystery of a pretty wicked bit of CELLO music I've been curious about!

Been dying to know what the name is, who the cellist is and who composed the tune played in the credits this 3rd season of the "Evil" TV series!

"The Count" by Audiomachine!!!  But I still can't find out who played the Cello or sheet music!

...think Edgar & I have our next Halloween tune! 🤗

Is Grieg considered public domain?  how does that work now?   he or heirs need royalities.  😉😁

cool track!.  it sounds very foreboding and in a way reminds me of hall of mountain king.  sounds like theyve added some distortion or fuzz effect to cello too which gives an extra ummph.. but a wild guess on my part.

@ABitRusty -

Why?  Anything published before 1923 is public domain.  You might want to know there are statutory limitations to exclusive rights, there's Fair Use, or if you plan to record & sell an album, then you would be interested in Compulsory License.  The copyrights on all my artwork are good for 70 years after my death. 😊

Btw, we'll have to have cellists weigh in on the sound - just might be natural for a cello!

...might need octave strings on viola.

It's 1927 now. Now that 2019 has passed, the date is advancing again. The copyright term is 95 years after publication for works first published before 1978.

@ABitRusty -

😳 ...hope you realize you made it so I'll never hear this the same way, again.

🤔 ...and don't think I'll ever see the Hall of the Mountain King in the same way, again!

Thanks for bringing me back down to Earth. 😒

Definitely off topic for the thread, but I can ruin Hall of the Mountain King even more: how about Peer Gynt reimagined as a casino heist?

(Synthesized orchestra sounds, not an actual recording. But Untitled Virtual Ensemble recorded it and it's in post-production -- the guy who arranged it is a member. I didn't play on that recording, though, because it was in the middle of thesis crunch time for me.)

@AndrewH -

🤣 That's GREAT!

Sure takes musical possibilities down another rabbit hole!

Very enjoyable - thank you!

🤔... "The Count" also has me thinking about a darker twist on some of Prokofiev's work.

I think we could all have some fun playing some wickedly weird music.

I want Kevin to make me one of these Nightmare Machines to play!

...Santa, you listening?

Actually, between violin & violin, I think I am getting really good at making a lot of these sounds already.
