I’m playing the fiddle for exactly 1 year now, what a great and fun journey. It’s still not easy and I have a lot to learn but I enjoy every moment I play.  Three tunes for my first jubilee!

@mookje Thanks for sharing your one year anniversary with us! It's like seeing a little kid only intermittently... you really notice the progress banana

I really love the Irish Washerwoman tune.

Awesome!!

I passed my one year mark the middle of this month!

I am having so much fun!  Learning so many things!!

My current projects are -

  1. Somewhere Over the Rainbow
  2. Pure Imagination (from Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory)
  3. In the Halls of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg) This one is quite a challenge for me.

Have you begun other positions (3rd? 2nd?)?

Also, I have not yet played in an orchestra but soon I will.  We have a community orchestra here where I live that I am looking seriously at.  Have you played in an orchestra?

Have an awesome 2nd year!

Thank you very much @bocaholly @Fiddlerman @damfino @Mouse @Pete_Violin

Before Christmas I had a few violin lessons but the teacher stopped. The teacher was great but I still was always very nervous so after the last lesson I decided to do it on my own again and not go for another teacher. So in my one year journey I had 9 lessons. Probably I can learn to play the violin much better with a teacher but I can always pick it up again.

@Pete_Violin I’m not playing in 2nd or 3rd position, I stil want to play more and beter first  in first position. I also don’t play in a orchestra and I think I’m never gonna do that 😃 it’s just to much pressure for me when I have to play with others, it makes me nervous and I will never find myself good enough for that! Beautiful songs for your current projects

@Mouse go for it!

That's really really good @mookje , especially for just one year of playingclap. Congrats on your intonation !

In irish, it's usually not necessary to go to 3rd position. Are you interested in playing classical too ? there you would need 3rd (and the others). But you're right that it can wait if you're having good fun. (My pseudo-philosophy is that the right time to start learning something is when you feel like doing it – or need it, which is more or less synonymous, to me.)

@Pete_Violin Where did you get the version in of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in D?

If it was a download, can you post the link? If it is in a book, what book is it in?

Thanks

@wtw Thank you very muchsmile I’m not really interested in playing classical songs, but I’m gonna learn at least one. I don’t know which one it’s gonna be but in first position, that’s for sure! I also like jazz and blues.

I agree with your pseudo philosophy, you’re absolutely right 👍 The time will come when I feel I’m ready and there are so many tunes for first position. For the next period I’ll be more focused on intonation, dynamics and ornaments,

@BillyG Thank you very much Billy smile

Mookje,

The First video I do not believe I have ever heard The butterfly / kiss for a fig before, it sounded good, and Irish washerwoman is on my list of to do's, well played.
