OK, so - I had hoped to start a party thread - but - things are getting busy again here, and I suspect that once again, I'll be absent from the forum for a goodly number of days at a time - so I just left this as a member's "Share a Video" thing.
This one IS different - I rarely share any EV playing (and I've been making minor changes to my EV setup - won't go into the detail, but if anyone's interested in playing EV and wondering how to "make the best of it", by all means ask here in this thread or PM me. It can be a lot of fun!)
As it happens (and it's not an excuse - it's just the way it is) I should have taken more time setting up both the EV and the FX box - but that's another matter.
Here is a two - tune - medley with the first reprised -- Auld Lang Syne, Road to the Isles then A.L.S. reprise -
Happy New Year to you all - each and everyone - enjoy, and make use of the forum in the coming year! Let's keep it ACTIVE and AWESOME !!!!!!

TY @ELCBK - ALWAYS fun to play - my pleasure !
And TY @JohnG - no - it's not your hearing (although, like myself, the "high end" is probably dropping off - whether through age (definitely in my case LOL) or sustained exposure to rock and heavy metal live concerts in our younger days (also definitely in my case Hahahaha !!! )
Seriously John - yes - the FX box used was a guitar effects box ( Roland ME-80 ) but it's hugely programmable/configurable. The "low end" you are hearing (which I probably left "too present" ) comes from one of the FX in the chain - an octave-dropper. Other than that, a tad of short-term echo ( 0.1 Second ) and a little reverb was added (not a lot - the EV "rings on on it's own" on an open string - or even when a finger is lifted, from a stopped position ( say on G4 on the D string ) the D4 will "sound" to some extent (like a soft "plucked string") - it's quite a different instrument to play..... for many reasons... and a lot of fun to explore !

Hi @JimandThomas !
"EV" - "Electric Violin" - oft-times called a "Silent Violin" ( SV )
There "does" seem to be a distinction made by some folks - some will call a normal, acoustic violin an "EV" just because it happens to have an inbuilt pickup, built-in to the bridge or attached to the body ( as a part of the instrument that is, not just a "clip-on" microphone)
To me however, the EV / SV is a "solid body" instrument ( no resonant sound-box ) and all the string energy (largely) will go into exciting the transducer (a piezoelectric transducer) generally mounted directly under the bridge. Of course, some energy from a bowed string WILL be coupled (via the bridge and the nut) into causing other strings to sympathetically vibrate - but MUCH less so than a normal acoustic violin.
The output from the transducer (pickup) under the bridge is VERY low - it is measured in millivolts - and most (cheap, like my one) will have an inbuilt (cut out of the solid body) compartment to hold a battery and a small amplifier+tone control. THAT will give enough gain to the output from the transducer to drive a set of headphones for (relatively - compared to an acoustic ) "Silent Playing" ( LOL )
But the real fun comes once you take that output to an effects box and amplifier !!!
It's REALLY different to playing a normal acoustic - it has its own positives and negatives - and - well - for me - I really believe it "has its place" in the violin/fiddle community !!!
And TYVM for your comment, glad you liked it !
Cheers,
Bill

Wow, that was cool! I have always been wondering how an electric violin, or cello, works. I have never seen any in real life, but this looks something that would be nice to try one day.

TY @Ilona - yup - and most certainly that EV was FAR from expensive - some years back it was around 100 Euros. I've purchased an acoustic-violin string-set that cost as much. Fortunately, on the EV the string type makes relatively little difference to the final sound - besides - you will certainly be using an effects box or pedal / and or amplifier with FX to "modify" the sound-scape anyway- so - cheap strings are just fine. I have used super-cheap ones, but the A and E tended to break, so I stick with Preludes now - a reasonable compromise between string quality and cost.
To me - it's all about "experimenting with sound" from various instruments rather than trying to become anything more than a half-way competent player. If you ever do get the chance to try an electric cello - trust me - you'll be blown away !!!!
