I've been waiting to post this for a while. I knew this was being recorded, but the video wasn't available until this week.
Back in August, as I mentioned in my blog, I played in a little backyard concert of video game music that a friend put together. Six of the seven people on stage are members of my orchestra -- it turns out we have a whole bunch of nerdy millennial or late Gen X string players who played a lot of video games in the 90s! (Not to say that that we were just playing music from 90s games, the date range for the stuff we played was from 1988 to 2017.)
There was a lot of juicy viola material, and I was unexpectedly playing it all solo. We were playing mostly string quartet or string orchestra arrangements, two to a part, and the other violist had to pull out on short notice due to illness, so I was holding down the viola parts by myself.
We're already planning another VGM concert for next year.

@AndrewH -
THANK YOU for sharing this!
REALLY enjoyed listening/watching this performance.
Your soloing made it VERY special!
...also enjoyed/appreciated the commentary! I don't play video games - only familiar with a few, but I've run across great music from some and now you've showed me even more to fall in love with!
