I swear I wasnt shooting for a jazz noir feel but i think i slipped and fell in it.  I got Les, Ol Scratch, and Martin together and put this together today.

The video clips symbolize the flowing of time I possibly wasted today with the black and white symbolizing the emptiness thereof..😶

not so much..I had fun.  Just goofing around and this is what happens.

Castle Kelly-ish

OMG! I love this, don't know about jazz, but definitely a blues feeling for me. I should do so good, and with hours of work, I'd still not be able to produce anything like this. Thank you!

@ABitRusty -

Okay, enough pussy-footing around!

CLAIM THIS ONE!

Call it "Castle Kelly Blues"... or something else - better yet, give it a proper name, cause it's WAY TOO COOL to be lumped in with "Castle Kelly".

THEN...

PUT IT OUT THERE FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO SEE & HEAR!

💖 💖 💖 LOVE IT! 💖 💖 💖

Your video was gorgeous and I could enjoy listening to this tune looped ALL DAY and NEVER tire of it!

Don't remove it, I MUST learn this - it's AWESOME!

Wow!  lol thanks guys!  appreciate that! ☺️

So this isnt that difficult but just takes sorta gettinv the base melody in your head.  I put a shaker sound on 120bpm but only on 1 & 3 so it probably came out more like 60bpm if you do a straight 4 beats.  i may correct that if im thinking wrong.   i claimed i was done for the day sooo.. not gonna check 😇

Then instead of trying to hit every single note id drop off a couple of eighths and combine the previous to make up the difference usually at the end of different measures.   You can compare and tell where i believe.  Change it up to make it flow for you.  whatever feels good.  I slid up to some notes and cut a few here and there.  kept away from rolls and the like.

As far as guitar ...i went for the acoustic next.  The original tune im gonna link is in Amin but think since i kept fingering the same as fiddle on viola its a Dmodal..maybe emodal?  Ill need to think a bit.  never used Em and kept the Am..anyway.  Knowing that I started with a D chord.. and just figured out what i liked from there strumming a couple times through.  chords were D, C  mainly.. G and occasional Am.

Wanted to stay simple with electric mainly due to ability but Root Fifth in 2 different octaves and arpeggio of D A and D.  strummed the full chord once or twice.

reverb obviously.  Panned the parts off center with the viola about 15 to the left on a 0-100 scale.  acosuyic opposite on the right.  various spread with the electric.

theres a ton of tunes out there if you truly like this sound that you can experiment with.  Thats why I like using the root 5th octave drones withput any type of beat sometimes.  Or the reverse...throwing some non traditional beat on and seeing how the notes fall.  Improvising like youve been doing @JohnG is perfect practice for it.

heres the original from thesession

Castle Kelly

thanks again!!

@ABitRusty -

Hey, I'm dead serious about you claiming it.

Give this a new name!

It's MUCH BETTER than "Castle Kelly"!

I love Cecile Corbel's music.  She plays a lot of Celtic & Folk tunes, but then she ALSO takes inspiration from the traditional tunes - uses phrases from some that are recognizable and then she puts her twist on them, gives them new life, with a new name!

Helen Rae plays a nice slower Viola version for Dirk Freymuth's album "Celtic Celebration", but it's still just the trad tune slowed down - your tune is unique!

Think if you really have found your own "voice" - RUN WITH IT!

AND, this is a top quality video, visually, too!

...if you put it out for the general public, I'll be the 1st one to give you RAVE reviews!

Damn, Sam! That tune is awesome. I just copied it into MuseScore, changed it to alto clef, and transposed down an octave. Spent about 10 minutes playing around in it and I LOVE it! Tried a little improv (definitely not bluesy) and can see I'll be working on this until I can get in shape to record.

Thank you, @ABitRusty!!!!!

p.s. I got done and my wife asked if I had played it before, 'cause it was already getting smooth.

there yah go @JohnG !! good deal!  to be honest youve done more than i did.  i should start writing it down i guess.   a year from now itll be completely different lol..

@elcbk im happy doing what i do but i really appreciate that.  its the ol tale of the blind squirrel getting an acorn i suppose.  lol. maybe i keep getting lucky.  the only aspirations bigger than playing with people would be to get enough enduarance and skill to play for a contra dance.   Not saying im even trying to head that direction but if you asked me what seems like a long range goal that would be it.

Im happy just chattin and posting here with whatever i clunk out in the basement.  If i post something someone likes great i can share what i did...if its bad then they know what not to do!  lol.  a win win 😃

Ok I'll just say it wow!

Great video, sound was extremely good, very bluesy.  Knocked that out of the ball park.

@ABitRusty  Excellent!  Really nicely put together—beautiful arrangement & background video.  smile
