Enjoyed that, @stringy I was watching your fingers. I have trouble moving my fingers at that speed, 😂. I also have trouble bowing like that, all the rocking back and forth from string to string, Working on it.

Thanks.

Thanks mouse, I will be honest I am not in a position to give advice, in fact I was asking an English fiddle player on another site if he gave lessons, very good player his rythm is .amazing.

If you are interested though, I would say very slow practice and scales, as for string to string, play the d very slow, stop and roll  the bow onto  the a string  then play that, then do the same from the a to the d, speed up over time, thats how I am trying to learn it anyway, but your playing is getting really good already.

Thanks For having a look Mark and Emily. I am in the process now of trying to learn tunes at full speed straight off, instead of slow like I play this one, after listening to kevin burkes views on practice. I played this a few times before recording it, but its still as rough as a bears a....... lol, a vid I posted of frankie gavin in it he mentions learning a tune he plays it about a hundred times. Just changed my entire way of practicing after this one.

@stringy -

When I started learning to play the violin, I wanted to know just how long it originally took some of the great fiddlers to learn a tune well.

I remember reading somewhere - an old fiddler said they'd have to play a new tune for a few months before anyone came thru with a new one to share, or someone went visiting & brought a new tune back with them.  I suspect a lot of years accumulated playing the same tunes!

How many YEARS had Gavin been playing the fiddle when he said that (about playing 100 times)?  40?  More?

🤔... average 7 times a practice, one practice every day for 2 weeks (got the 100!).  I probably do that, then rotate my tunes & comeback for more later (because I'm no Frankie Gavin).

Have you tried working on pushing the tempo of a couple tunes you already know very well?

Started speeding up some of the older tunes, I know, still fairly hard for me though to be honest. Its actually gotten to the point that you mentioned yourself a couple of years ago about how many tunes you can learn and still be able to practice every day, I said at the time I rotated mine, but it only works up to a point of about ten tunes, for me anyway, over that I dont have enough time. I am going to stick now to learning a new one every now and then as I now realise its bettter to play a few tunes well than hundreds badly, not only that I cant remember them all, its up to about fifty tunes now, seriously. I am fairly good at the Kesh jig now though not bad after all these years of playing ;) (thats meant to be a joke, I am not that good at the Kesh either) lol

@stringy liked listening to this. Hadn't heard this jig before, it sounds different from other jigs (dunno why, maybe the tonality ?). Anyway, you're playing it well. Good luck with working on the speed. But it's already pleasant to hear in this slower version.

Wtw thanks for taking a look. I tried to find a recording of this one but couldnt, so have no real idea of how its supposed to sound, I always like hearing a tune first but couldnt with this one so I just read it and hoped for the best. Thanks for the kind comment;)
