I believe FM is planning to go by the number of views on YouTube and not the number of views of the forum topic.  This would eliminate the problem of people visiting the thread multiple times but watching the video only once (such as if they are repeatedly posting).  Since YouTube counts views from embedded players on external sites, such as here, that count would encompass not only people who saw the video through the forum but also those who run across it by other paths.  It also makes a little more sense considering the point is to promote the site so we want people outside of the community to see the ads and want to make sure their views are included too.

Eh, as far as I am concerned, the site is the real winner and if the site wins then we all win.
