Since i got my new violin i've been figuring out how to record and post a little video.  I don't have an amp, the electric is plugged into mt ipod speakers, it actually works pretty well.  I also just found this music today but it's one of my favourite pieces.  I haven't played it all, just a small clip since i'm still working on the double notes at the beginning and on the faster section.  Also the video was taken with my ipad and i'm having a particularly bad hair day today so you can only see my arm.

Feel free to critique, there's not much there but i'm sure i can hear a slightly off note, also i know i missed a rest about half way through the section.

I couldn't figure out how to embed the video so if anyone can tell me how that'd be great, until then here's the link:

Good job on timing and intonation!

You did everything right with posting the video, because it works perfect with the link from youtube!thumbs-up

This song is not very familiar to me, so i might be wrong, but i suppose that if You will start with the up-bow, the longest notes (which as i understood are the first in the measures and strongest) will match with the down-bow and so it will be easier to play related to dynamics.

Thanks!

It's a nice piece of music by saint-saens; the sheet music i have doesn't have bowing, i'll start it on an up-bow and see how it sounds.

Good job Mischa,

I would reverse the bowing and start the pick-ups with an up bow for emphases on the half note down beats.

Thanks for the post. :-)

Thanks!  @fiddlerman, Yup, i've been trying it starting on an up bow and it does sound a lot better.  I've been working on the rest of the piece with moderate success, it starts with notes on 2 strings which has been a bit challenging but it's going okay.

@Fiddlestix,  Thanks!  I like the sound of it too, especially when it's plugged in.  I've been feeling a bit discouraged the past few days, i've been struck with a bout of tinnitus which seems to be making my ears very sensitive to squeaking noises from the strings.  Hopefully it'll go away soon and i can get back to practicing.

I've always loved this piece.  It's been a while since I looked at the sheet music, but i remember seeing it and thinking, "Maybe in a couple years or so."  Props on attempting it.

The only critique, and I'm in no way qualified to critique anyone's playing, is that the notes don't blend together very well.  Almost like you are making an effort to play each note without thinking about what's next.  Try and see if you can make each bow stroke interchange smoother.

For what it's worth...

Never mind maneuvers, just go straight at them.

I think i might have a simplified version of the sheet music, it's short and doesn't quite match with the music when i listen to it.  I am on the lookout for the whole version though.

Critique is good!  And yes i do get what you're saying.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.  Yes, that's the piece.  I just played a little from the middle section.  Thanks for the nice comments.
