@HP - depends on how much you need or want to know - if when you play, you can "map it all from sheet to the finger board" - well - it probably doesn't matter - but - understanding modes isn't all that difficult - for instance - we all kind of know that tunes in a major mode ( Ionian mode ) sound "different" from tunes in a minor scale ( aeolian mode ) - if it piques your interest - here's a good resource - https://www.basicmusictheory.c.....orian-mode
That site can pretty much show you the scale notes to play in any possible key or mode you care to think of.... (admittedly, I guess, you probably do need to know what you're asking for though... lol ) !
Hey - thanks again for you post and your playing !

Thanks for the link @BillyG I'll check it out later. My teacher gave me a lot to work on over Christmas, so I'm pretty busy practice wise so I don't really know how much I can get through at the moment. But it looks interesting indeed.

If any of you were wondering what tune it was, it's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, although I probably played it in the wrong key.
Thanks ! it did ring a bell and I was wondering where I'd heard it before (found it again). I like that tune a lot

We have different modes in my part of the US. playing mode and drinking mode. coffee, tea, beer what have you.Keep up the good work, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
And feast mode I will assume in this time of the year. Well, for me at least, considering I'm celebrating Yuletide, which is a week long feast in honor of the winter solstice. That reminds me, happy brighter days for those of you who celebrate Yuletide as well.
Thanks, will do. Have a good one.
And again, Merry Christmas everyone!

When I pack the imitation Xmas Tree away for next year, I also hide the bathroom scales and only start using them again come April...... The only scales I use for 3 months are Bb, Eb and F.....
