Been working more on this tune and decided to try and multitrack a version of it out and submit it to a song writing contest (of course I have like 1 day left to submit 8) ). Anyway would love to get some feedback, track levels, second fiddle parts, chopping fiddle. I think if I have time tonight I might replace the second fiddle part with a viola to add some more tonal depth.

Aloha @fiddlinsteudel,
I think switching to a viola would give it a nice tonal change as well. I'm actually thinking of getting a 5-string (electric?) fiddle myself, for that very reason. Plus, I could play the viola parts in upcoming FiddlerMan projects
As to sound levels, I would probably bring out the 2nd fiddle/viola just a tad bit more. It's a little muted as compared to 1st fiddle. It would be good to bring out the harmonies a little bit more, but not too much as to lose the melody of the 1st fiddle.
Still, it was very nice. It makes you want to get up off your seat and dance! That was just the right tempo. Very well done, indeed! I would like to write music like that myself. You write and play the style to which I aspire.

Thanks @iBud ! I'll go back to the mix and up the second fiddler part. Great feedback thanks!

Wow, this was great! For some reason, it does make me think of Guangzhou even though I've never been there or am able of speaking Cantonese. lol
I do think adding a viola would add more tonal depth. Besides the violin, what is/are the other instrument(s) in this song? I really enjoy it!

fiddlinsteudel needs some badges!
COMPOSER,
CRITIQUE (if there's a video of that stuff)
any others people?
Aloha @cdennyb,
Well, he's put other videos up, so I think he should get the video badge. Maybe we should have another badge, Instructor. He had one that incorporated two camera shots, one of his left hand and the "normal" one of the fiddle itself. In that way, he "instructed" us how to play that tune.

Haha thanks guys, I was just looking at all the badges folks had and was wondering how those worked.
BTW I aded in a bit of viola, what do you guys think?

@augustoad - the other instruments are bodhran (from a software program) and a rythym guitar (also from a software program).
The rest of this is real mostly just fiddle
- Fiddle main melody track
- Fiddle harmony track
- Fiddle chop track
- And now viola droney part
- and in a few places an viola harmony part

Aloha @fiddlinsteudel,
I'm going to have to download that mp3 and keep it as one of my favorites. My stuff is bush league compared with yours. If you have it in sheet music, I'd like to study it to see how you constructed the various parts. I'd like to see both your chord patterns and the scale(s) you used for the primary violin part.
That sounds excellent! Maybe one day I can attempt to write something like that.

Thanks @iBud ! Unfortunately I don't have any sheet music of this, I just play stuff and record it. I did download some software after our last conversation but haven't had time to sit down and notate this.

Aloha @fiddlinsteudel,
It might take you a while to score all of that! Anyway, my recommendation is MuseScore 2.0b1. You can use the keyboard for most of what you need to do, if you can remember all of the keyboard shortcuts, that is. It's supported on the following platforms:
Windows 7/8
Mac
Debian/Ubuntu
PCLinuxOS
(Source Code can also be downloaded, if you like)
They pretty much have everything covered. There are lots of videos on the 1.x release, but a lot of that is the same or on the left-hand sidebar. it's pretty nice, although some of it has to be the "MuseScore" way. Those are most likely advanced procedures, however. I think it's great, and I produce all of my sheet music that way. Your stuff repeats a lot, so you'll have a good time with repeat barlines
The other good thing about scoring tunes is that you can always modify them and print them out, even by individual instruments. You'll have to set up "Parts", but then you'll have them on their own separate tabs and when you modify the individual parts, the master score is also updated. You can also copy and paste between MuseScore scores, in case you want to use the same background instrument tracks in another score.
And no, I don't work for MuseScore, but think it's an incredible app, at least for what I do.

Cool thanks, I'll check that out.
BTW if you ever want to get a little feedback on your song writing check out:

I've entered a few times and it's nice to get some validation on how you are doing and get a little feedback (note it's a short paragraph and a numbered rating system).

BTW I do have the chords.

Aloha @fiddlinsteudel,
Just one thing - you're going to have to change the title on that file. "Guanzhaou" is not a valid Mandarin word, as far as my understand of their spelling goes. It should be like the title of this thread - "Guangzhou".
As for the rest, thanks for the chord structure. That will help me understand both the meter and "normal" progression, as well as key signatures. I never played this type of music on the keyboard, so this is really great for me. I love learning about how different types of music are created - ie., what the "rules" are and do forth.
I can use Audacity to slow it down to my speed - you really play rather quickly I'l see what I can do to help you score it, if you don't mind. I can send you the files via PM. If you get MuseScore, you can then edit the parts.
Aloha @Fiddlerman, @fiddlinsteudel needs to get at least the video, critique, and composer badges. I'm not sure what else he's done, but he's pretty advanced and has probably done other things as well.

Sure that'd be great thanks!

Thanks Pierre, I think I posted some videos of me playing live with one of my bands before ... is there a list of badges somewhere?

BIG THANKS to @iBud for transcribing this tune! And introducing me to MuseScore, what a cool program! If anyone is interested in reading notes for this tune, the score is now attached.

Aloha @fiddlinsteudel,
Thanks for the mention. I really, really like Musescore, as it does everything I need. There are some things that need to be done the "Musescore" way, but it produces a very nice end product. Thanks for allowing me to transcribe your tune. It really is very nice.
Oh, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone on this forum, and especially for @Fiddlerman, without whom we would most likely never have met!
P.S. and Go Navy! After only 10 days since the annual Army-Navy game, they got the best Christmas present of all - a bowl win where they had more turnovers than their opposition, seeking out a win only after the San Diego State kicker was wide right on a game-winning field goal attempt. A special Merry Christmas goes out to all veterans on this forum.
