Hey, IggyZuk! Nice T-shirt! I hope, i won't disappoint you if tell that CCCP does not exist any more (thank God!) =))

Well done by the way! Your intonation is pretty good for the most part. Try to support the violin with your head a little more and not with left hand. Make it a bit more straight - it will allow you to change position more comfortable and make a good influence on your intonation.

PS. i never posted my videos too.. before Christmas Project!

Good work!! thumbs-up

Хаха спасибо Мад_Вэд!

And ofcourse I know USSR collapsed :P

Thing you said about supporting the violin with my head more is probably right, I sometimes find my self looking into the other direction and still managing to play somehow, so that probably isn't good.

I think my right hand needs a lot of improvements too but sadly you cant see much on of it on this video..

But thanks again, FM inspires us to play and record and be better eh? cool

roflolThat was cool! Didn't know you speak Russian - всегда пожалуйста! =)) rofl

.. I sometimes find my self looking into the other direction and still managing to play somehow, so that probably isn't good...

Not exactly.. Look everywhere you want! But give your left hand more freedom.. Imagine, how much work it makes now: holds the violin, presses the strings, makes vibrato.. how to change positions here? =))

I've just noticed that right hand pinky is straight and collapsed, but i think you know it =)

And i don't know why but from that video i can suggest that it's not really comfortable for you to play in the chair..  Try to play standing.. I guess that will give you more space for bowing.

Nice!  : D!!! I've never heard that song before.

*ponders* Maybe we should all wear hats in our videos  :D I have some fun hats for when I can actually record video.

I can't give any advise, but that was well played violin. You're way past my level of experience. (and ability to use recording equipment!!! lol)

On "Cheap eBay violins" … Just tell people they are like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.  With a little love, and some practice, they too can be made beautiful.

Pfff... I am Russian! :D

Yeah you got your point! also vibrato is much harder to do when you arent holding the violin with your head.

I've just noticed that right hand pinky is straight and collapsed, but i think you know it =)

I just noticed that my self, but im not exactly sure how I should be doing this right, I'll check out some of FM's bow holding videos...

And i don't know why but from that video i can suggest that it's not really comfortable for you to play in the chair..  Try to play standing.. I guess that will give you more space for bowing.

Agreed! Playing standing is much better in every way, but for this occasion I had to get my self in the camera somehow.

Many Thanks! cheers

Thank you! Waltz is great, and even better when it's Shostakovich! :D

*ponders* Maybe we should all wear hats in our videos  :D I have some fun hats for when I can actually record video.

Hahaha that's funny, but I love the sound of the idea, and I already have a hat in mind for the next video rofl

I played the violin for a couple of years on and off, like Sherlock Holmes! come from work and to releaf some stress make sounds with the violin, or turn on some music and try to play to that... never really bothered to learn how to read music or how to properly play, Until Now! violin-student

Recording equipment haha, First time ever.. I used that Mac Screen capture software! it's fancy and super easy.

Alright IggyZuk,

Я говорю России тоже. Пока у меня есть Google Translate, чтобы помочь мне.

I really enjoyed watching that. First of all lot's of great stuff here. It appears to me that you will be able to improve in strides if you fix your technique. I notice that your bow swings when you play at the upper half and that is because your fiddle is too low for you to reach properly at the tip. <-----corresponds with what Mad said. You may eventually get problems with your neck holding it like that too.

I want to start off talking about your left hand. I suppose that you know better than to rest your palm on the neck like that but if you would give it a chance for a long enough time you would see that you would gain tremendous freedom for movement if you could keep the wrist much straighter. Also, your choice of fingerings when up in the positions is very bad. You are making the piece more difficult. If you send me the sheet-music I'll finger it for you.

Lastly, bravo for a very interesting video. Very nice choice. I'm going to enjoy coaching you.

Many Thanks FiddlerMan, and that is why I am here!

Actually I didn't think that was an issue, until you pointed it out, and having a video to look at all my mistakes is even better.

I will play more and try to keep my wrist straight.

Also, your choice of fingerings when up in the positions is very bad. You are making the piece more difficult. If you send me the sheet-music I'll finger it for you.

Truth is I played this by ear with no sheet music (I know I shouldn't do that), And I only started learning about positions when I got to pratice Christmas Project V1, Position 3 > Position 2 > Position 1, I did notice that it made the piece a lot easier since I didn't have to jump from string to string, but just like in your Third Position video you say, "Take that picture of the feeling when you are in third position", so really I just have to play more and feel exactly where third position is.

And also as you might have noticed in this video my pinky never touches any strings, I find it near impossible to use it, or perform Vibrato with it. dazed

And hopefully on my Christmas V1 video you will see improvements!

Lastly, bravo for a very interesting video. Very nice choice. I'm going to enjoy coaching you.

Many thanks again coach! cheers

In that case BRAVO!!!

I don't agree with you that you shouldn't play by ear. If it works for you than by all means play by ear.

Find fingerings that make it easier to play. Instead of shifting on every note as you sometimes do, jump to a higher position then jump all the way back to first to avoid playing 3 or 4 notes in a row with the same finger.

Lastly, having problems with the fourth finger is all the more reason to use it. If you are having troubles with your fourth finger at least use it at home to strengthen it. You'll be happy you did later. I understand not wanting to perform or record yourself using it for now but all other times you should.

That is really good to know :D!

It always helps when on a music sheet I can see what finger position I have to be in to play the part, and I guess the biggest problem with this piece is that I played it by the ear.

But I know exactly what you mean, I'll give more practice with your videos on different positions.

Lastly, having problems with the fourth finger is all the more reason to use it. If you are having troubles with your fourth finger at least use it at home to strengthen it. Thank you I'll do that, get my fourth finger some finger muscles. birthday_balloon

I speak English almost that way too.. duncecap

About your playing by ear - that's a really good thing! Don't quit it even when will play by sheet music! My teacher offered me to study playing only by ears.. So i think - not without cause! She never offers me useless things! But i insisted to have some solfeggio and note-reading lessons too../wondering why? stupid me../

I like that music and can tell you have some emotion for it as well.

I usually don't think of Shastakovich as being so lyrical.

I found this on YouTube searching to save a copy of the song. I've never seen people having so much fun at a classical style concert. It's probably what I've been exposed to, but I always pictured people going to see classical music all dressed up, then they just sit there stiffly and listen. The audience is amazing and the violinist is having a blast. Thank you for exposing me to the music by playing it.  :)

Many thanks, I thought it was wrong, because sometimes you make up your own notes and feel like it's all fine, so sheet music + ear is the way to go from now on! party

Ha! yeah I can see my face at the end looking very emotional, but it's an emotional piece in my opinion what can I say coffee2.

Andre Rieu is amazing, playing an amazing piece! The concert does look like a lot of fun, I'd love to be there next time! I've been to the orchestras a several times and... there were moments where I was falling a sleep :P, But still great stuff.

And just you wait once I sort out my technique, I shall play this piece again! afro

Oh Hey, I have a small problem, I only now noticed it and wanted to ask if anyone knows how to fix it.. would be greatly appreciated!

I have a still new and a kind of an expensive bow that I was playing for a couple months I only now noticed its bent, I really have no idea how I did that or how I could try to get it back straight again. dazed

Heres a photo, one at top is my old bow, one at the bottom is the new one:

Which one is the good one? A real quality pernambuco bow is worth getting reshaped. The luthier heats it and forms it somehow. Not sure how it's done.

I have my bows done a few times. The orchestra used to pay so I don't know how much it costs.
