I know I haven't been around too much, but I'm still playing and attempting to improve while learning new tunes. I've been doing a lot of remodeling work in my spare room, so that has been keeping me away... I still pop in and read but don't always feel like I have anything worth adding to the conversation, lol. I'm getting close to finishing the room, so hopefully that will free up some time for me, haha.
Anyway, here's a few videos of what I've been up to, I've been trying to play on my one strength, which is learning tunes by ear, so I can learn a tune in a few minutes and then spend more time working on technique and not so much time trying to figure out the written out rhythm...
Here is a recap of what I've been working on:
Boys of Bluehill
and Inchiquin's Barn Dance

@AndrewH Thanks! It's doing a lot better. I was actually able to carry my camera around on my vacation this year, when just last fall I still couldn't. It's touchy, but feels the most normal it has in the past year.

Hey hey - good progress on both the room and the fiddling ! Awesome
Yup, playing by ear is (in my opinion) one of the best ways to get your own feel into a fiddle tune. So many fiddle tunes as scored (and of course you need the score initially if it's a tune you simply don't know already) omit the little subtleties and bowing/articulation nuances that make it truly recognizable in the fiddle genre. Often best just to get the tune in your head, then adapt to your personal style !
I often have to refer to sheet (initially) because even though I think I know a tune - for many fiddle tunes it's either the A part or the B (which is occasionally used as a chorus) which is stuck in my head... with the other part being just a kind of blur in my mind until I research it... strange....
Well done
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)
