This is from xmas 2014 and about a year since getting the righty violin that got converted-ish to lefty and up to that point I had hardly spent any time on it due to life and that I just couldn't get my head round it, but something stuck and around this point I started putting the time in and was getting serious about playing it.

It seems a good idea to have a datum, and to share it here so my progress can be compared with itself kinda thing. I am slightly improved since recording this, so I intend to record something now which will show how far, if anywhere, I have come in 9-10 months.

I got my REAL lefty violin 6 months ago, and it was from that point my approach got serious! Lolol

I can't say 'enjoy!' cuz it's awful, but for an academic point of view, serves as a ruler for me to measure myself, and maybe help you guys help me when I ask stuff and you have an idea of my competence.

Nice sounding violin!  I like the tone.

The playing isn't that "awful" either, though I know that to you it sounds that way right now.  But part of that comes from comparing your "noob" sound on violin to what you can do at more advanced levels on other instruments.

That sounded OK to me for the time you've been playing. There were a few fluffed notes, but we all do that (well most of us!).

Well done for getting your first vid up - it takes bottle to do that. thumbs-up

I think you sound fine for having been brand new, and you were also trying to wrap your head around playing left handed on a right handed violin :)

I tried Jingle Bells in my first week or two, and couldn't get it to sound like it at all, so I gave it a go again the other day, and was finally able to do it decently.

It hurt you more than it did me,,, LOL,,, sounded just fine.

We tend to be our own worst critic when it comes to playing violin, or anything for that matter.

Good job, keep it up.

Kudos on beginning to document your progress, @leftyuk ! It's an invaluable tool and a great morale booster when, down the road, you feel like you're not making progress. You can look back at your early videos and see/hear that, in fact, you are.

I thought you sounded just fine. And thank you...hearing a Christmas tune made me feel a little cooler in this late-summer humidity.

Not bad at all! The tune was recognizable, and you played it with spirit.

I look forward to seeing a more recent video.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement..... I read these today and did a little happy dance; it really is a huge boost and a great incentive....

so much so, I decided to revisit jingle bells and try it again and try and show any advancement. So it has got all flowery and excessive lololololool but made the tune a challenge for me in the same way it was originally. I botched a lot and missed what should have been a double stop on the end bit, but I think shows my current skill level. (I use that term v loosely!)

I think that's the very first time I saw someone play left-handed! You're doing good! .clap

The second version shows a lot of improvement. I like the way you added your own touches to turn it into a fiddle tune!

VERY good. I'm impressed. And left handed too. ;)
Getting ready for Christmas. Not a bad idea at all. Time flies.
Love that you are making Jingle Bells special by adding some variation.
