First video! So I'm gonna start with something lightviolin-student. Lots of room for improvement but I hope you guys enjoy anyways!

The piece is called "You Raise Me Up"

Constructive criticism appreciated!

By the way, don't I just have the weirdest facial expressions when I play? LOL

Fantastic smile m.k.

Really happy to have you here.

Try taking a breath right before starting and begin gentler on the Bb pick-up (no accent) to grow to the G. (crescendo)

At 109 avoid an accent by leaving the bow on the string and perhaps continuing the bow in the same direction. Also can be softer to build towards the G.

I would love to hear the same piece played again with more dynamics. You have a nice strong sound but the strength would mean more if combined by soft dynamics as well.

You often use bowing direction which is contradictory to the phrasing and I wonder if you have a reason for it? If you like, scan and send me the sheetmusic and I'll give you a bowing suggestion, scan it and send it back to you.

It's obvious that you have a good ear and I am sure you hear when you are off. This is another reason for recording ourselves :-)

Welcome to the face making club, lol, I think that we do it because our minds are focusing on too many things at once. We use all kinds of muscles unnecessarily when we play and if you can learn to eliminate the excess tensions you can play more relaxed, for longer periods and with less trouble.

I enjoyed your first post immensely. Look forward to many more. Thanks for posting. You will soon see how much everyone enjoyed this.

A very nice presentation m.k!   Tension is understandable.  Wish you greater heights!

Thanks guys for the input and Fiddlerman for his useful comments! I noticed my lack of dynamics as I found my video incredibly boring to listen to after the first 20 seconds haha. I also noticed my inaccurate notes but was hoping you guys wouldn't notice (I'm used to playing for an unmusical crowd) dunno. My bowing were spontaneous decisions so I didn't really pay much attention to it. I will be sure to put much more attention to the things you mentioned next video. Thanks again!

Lovely m.k.!

Dynamics are a bit more difficult when playing by yourself, without someone there directing and indicating crescendos, decrescendos, ppp, and forte- watch the directors in a live performance and who they look at (; Too, with a violin under your chin, projection from your perspective sounds differently than what the audience hears, but like Pierre said, recording yourself, and playing it back helps in that regard.

Your vibrato is fab! You do have an excellent ear (a wonderful thing to have!), and on the few, very few places where your intonation was off slightly seemed to be in shifting positions -I'm sure being recorded made you more self-conscious of the shifting, but that will improve to where you have a minimal recovery at best, nailing those notes practically spot on, the more you progress.

I haven't looked at your previous videos, but wowwee! m.k. you've got some awesome skills! Keep up the great work!

Thanks QuicheLoraine! I don't have any previous videos LOL. And yes! The thing about dynamics sounding different to the audience is definitely true. I was positive I was putting more emotion into it than that. I'll pay more attention to the shifting.

Wow, that was really good, I definately can't get that good as far as the vibrato, that vibrato was amazing, every once and a while I di hear a little scratching sound, I think that is mostly because used to much rosin, at least when I dont put as much rosin on it sounds a lot cleaner, so thats just my experience,  and then the only other thing is you need a new camera, because when you hit the high notes, I got the impression that the metal inside the camera was echoing the vibrations wich cause a loud ringing sound, not a problem for old people.  Minor minor things though.  Overal I think you did a fantastic job, it will take me at least 2 more years to get close to that, and I have been playing since the fourth grade... which isnt much since Im in my Freshman year, but anyways, Very good job!thumbs-up
