This is such a pretty little waltz, I'll be happy when I can do it justice. I'm getting there. The sheet music is bare-bones, no bowing or suggested ornamentation. I've been using it as a tool to make myself add my own ornamentation, since so many student books have that all spelled out for you. It was written by a local Cleveland musician, Fritz Schaufele.

It's funny, I tried recording this video earlier without the hat... couldn't do it. Threw the hat on and hit helped me relax enough to get a decent-enough take, haha.

Nicely played! I've been using some Irish/Scottish tunes for the same reason. Playing around with flicks, rolls (get em right about 50% of the time haha) and slides. One of my favorites is King of the Faeries. I'm thinking about calling it something else, though :p

Great job, Mandy. It's amazing how far you've come in such a short time. :)

Now I know what my problem is - I need a hat! lol

I have to agree with Jim you have progressed quite well in your playing.

It would seem that you are a natural at playing the violin and I look forward to more videos of your progress.

Thank you for sharing Mandy!

@Dan-Hur Thank you :) I love playing all the ornaments in Irish fiddle tunes, it's so fun :)

@Charles Thanks :D I think the Ming is a good match for me :)

@Jim Dunleavy Aw, thanks so much :) Haha, I'm thinking maybe the hat works like Dumbo's magic feather for me... Maybe one will for others? Hats for everyone :D

@Fred Thank you :) I don't always feel like I'm making progress so I'm glad to know that I still am :)

@coolpinkone Thank you pink-violin-girl and I can't believe it's almost 2 years since I picked up this instrument :D Time sure does fly!

@~Rea Thank you so much smile I do love this little tune :)

That is hilarious. It's actually common for crutches to affect us. I think I would play completely differently if I wore a mask and no-one knew that it was me. :)
Do you feel more country with the hat?

@Fiddlerman Thank you :)

Haha, yes, the hat helps me feel like I at least look the part of a fiddle player, lol. Maybe now I need some cowboy boots, haha.

I know, it seems wrong that I don't, haha. My teacher didn't realize until she twisted her ankle and needed to wear a more comfortable shoe that all she had were cowboy boots, lol.

wow you sound so good! I love your video by the way! I find the fiddle tunes so much fun! I dug out my copy of Mel Bays' guide to fiddle and realized i'm missing the first CD :( but i'm digging in to the ones i do have muh hahahhahha.  Hopefully i'll be like you soon!! You're ornamentation is awesome and there's something about just playing and adding your own expression that truely is so much fun! :D

I love classical pieces but fiddle pieces just get your heart beat pumping and feet a pounding with joy :D can't wait to hear more!
