We all make mistakes. It’s part of the learning process. If you decide to make a video of your playing, especially in the beginning, you’re going to make mistakes—lots of them.
I’ve learned something from every video I’ve made—it’s been a useful tool.
I’ve compiled some of my mistakes from the videos I’ve made since the beginning of the year (some of them, not all—the video would be too long!) that I thought I’d share.
For those of you who are new to the video thing, or are thinking of starting the video thing (sharing a video in this thread, joining a Party in the Party Room, or participating in the Forum Members Group Project, The Ash Grove), take heart. . . it gets better the more you do it.

Good Morning Sharon. I'm curious about what type of recording equipment you're using. I generally use my iphone 11 or a laptop with a usb audio technica microphone. What is your favorite?
Also, I've looked at the basic instructions for setting up a youtube channel, but if you have any tips or advice, that would be helpful. Thank you.

I think its very good of Sharon to share this, she is a great player, and its good to show others that mistakes are made.
Heifetz once replied to a woman who said to him, 'I would give my life to play like that'. 'Madam I did,' in other words for every minute of performance there are thousands of hours of practice, I think this is what Sharon is showing us.
I once tried for about two hours to play, 3 blind mice of all things, one of the simplest tunes you can play, every single time I hit a bad note at the end, until I finally managed it perfectly, and guess what, when I went to play it back on my tablet it hadnt recorded.
If you had been outside on that day in the States you would have heard my scream from England, almost smashed my fiddle in temper. quite amusing now though when I think about it, but at the time I just had to get it right before I could relax.
Cant beat a sunny day

I did a recording the other day which was OK and then I found I'd forgotten to switch on the phantom power on my preamp.
I swear a lot. I make Tarantino sound like Disney. I have to restrain myself, as I'm not sure how easy it is to bleep stuff out with Audacity. I must experiment.

@Grandpafiddle In March, I started using a Zoom Q8 camera & an AE5100 Audio-technica condenser microphone. Before that, I was using an older Ipad that work really well.

@SharonC -How come you don't swear, like I do? 🤣
That was great - Thanks!
@ELCBK I think I sometimes do, but it's always after I've turned the video off

When I get things wrong its the only time my violin actually has a name.
I don't get as frustrated as I did in my first few years of playing. I think I just expect things to just go wrong now. I figure now if it comes easy, I must not be learning anything.
