Hi folks here I share with you the Rieding 1st movement in B minor. I decided to spice it up a bit and play without the shoulder rest. Hope you all enjoy it there are some details to work on but I loved playing this. Let me know your thoughts on it.
Cheers.

How are you finding it, playing without the shoulder rest ?
I'm doing somewhat the opposite : always played without, but trying occasionally to use one. Up to now I find it rather uncomfortable, it restricts a bit my freedom of motion and suppresses most of the nice feeling of the wood transmitting the vibrations directly to my body (that's hard to describe). The plus side, though, is that it's easier to play 4th finger notes on the C string (I play viola, not violin) in 3rd position or higher, because the instrument is more angled "forward" (less parallel to the floor).
I think it may be different with a violin though. Let us know what it changes for you

That sounds fantastic Juan. I love the strong, confident tone you're getting out of the violin. Wish I could do that!![]()
Thank you Jim. Don't worry, those newances come gradually and with time. Im working on lots of things to get a good sound. But as i'm doing the work i must learn to be patient. We need patience for our abilities to sink in and for them to evolve. You'll make it Jim 😎

That was great!!! You did really well at it! Thank you for sharing!
You'll never know unless you try! What's in my violin case?

Very nice! I'm currently working on the Kuchler Concertino, but the Rieding is on my list of pieces to learn. It's still a little out of my reach right now, but I'll get there.
How do you like playing without a shoulder rest? I love it. Much more freedom and feels way better. I just needed to get a taller chinrest because I hold the violin with the bottom purfling notched just under my collarbone instead of on top.
Keep up the good work!
