It's the summer so my grandsons are over, we are missing the grand daughters but unfortunately I didn't follow the rule book so it's just us for most of the day (which actually becomes a blessing in disguise)....after a brief moment of sadness, which was quickly cured by some ice cream for breakfast (they instructed me that rules were made to be broken by grandmas!) they asked if this year they could learn the fiddle with me - needless to say, I of course, jumped up and down with joy!

They disappeared into their room to let me finish up work, and came back 2 hours later. This is their first song - Oh how kids learn, using my fiddle for now (they even put tape on by watching a youtube vid!) - after wiping my eyes dry I am off to purchase them a couple of used fiddles, wish me luck, second-hand stores here we come, gonna make this a great day!

That was great! Breaking rules is what make grandparents “grand”.

Too funny guys! - Hearing them play definitely reminded me of how bad I must have sounded...and probably still do...they'll probably be teaching me before the end of the year! But what I like most is they haven't looked at their cell phones since friday, and between practicing and running around playing I think they are having a good time.

Valarie Ryals, a local, absolute sweetheart fiddle instructor let them pick through a bunch of used fiddles - she even squeezed them in an impromptu lesson and they loved it.

Is it the angle, or is the older boy playing a small viola? It is going really far beyond his shoulder. Also looks larger than the instructor in the middle. I tried zooming in, but couldn’t clear it up that way.

Love seeing the young ones having fun with music and playing!

Oh man, Mimi Aysha, once they showed a drop of interested, you didn't waste any time getting them on the right track! Awesome. If you're looking for an extra grandkid, consider me a candidate! cheerleader

:) Awesome !!!!  Great stuff.   Amazing when kids just *want* to do something - there's no stopping them !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Come on over Bocaholly, you more than welcome anytime!

I think it's important for them to have something to do when they are over here, kinda giving them a break from reality...the fiddles were very reasonable so if it doesn't continue we will pass them along....and of course the normal kids stuff. We packing up some sandwiches and gonna take off to look for a good swimming and fishing spot today.

Want them to meet people, make friends...and have some fun stories and experiences to hopefully pass along to their grandkids one day!

@Mimi Aysha If the strings on it are a C,  G, D and A, it is a small viola. It could be what I see with the angle of the photo. There is just something in the looks when I look at all three, and when I just look at that one. I could be, very well am, wrong.

Please let us know what you find out. Use the @Cid so I see it. Thanks. I am rather curious now! Either way, it is a good laugh!

Great! I have no idea why it keeps looking like a small viola to me. Yep, that was funny. Loved your reaction.

@cid

PS - I just asked Valerie who giggled and told me that she was using a 7/8 fiddle and my youngest was using a 3/4 so thats why his looked bigger... good spot!
