My own composition—I thought I’d share it (for better or for worse ). I’m calling it Mountain Rest.

@stringy @JohnG @Mouse @ELCBK thank you so much
Yes, I’ve written it out. I made up the melody about 2 weeks ago as I was working on my vibrato, putting notes together that were giving me trouble. Kind of an Etude. Then I wrote it out in musescore, & worked out the 2nd part to it.
When I was young, my grandparents bought property in Pennsylvania (they/we were living in NJ at the time) that was to be their retirement home.
They started out with a single-wide trailer, but my grandfather built onto it (i.e., built a deck, then enclosed it, making it a room, then built another deck, etc.,). I would go with them & spend the weekends there as they did work on it. At first, they didn’t even have electricity or water hooked up, so it was more like camping. It was a big adventure for a NJ kid coming from the city into a rural Pennsylvania small town.
My grandmother would always say it was time to “go to the mountains” (we lived in an urban area in NJ), & my grandfather would call it his “mountain rest”. I guess I thought of it when I needed a title.
Or, I could have just called it “Etude #1”

cool tune and story to tie it to your grandparents @SharonC ! It reminded me of the Maine Cabin masters show if youve happened upon it. the story i mean. Thanks for sharing that!
Id like to do exactly what your grandfather did as a getaway cabin. On the show its pretty mich families that have had family cabins and the host renovate them..
Smart move getting the notes in muse score. Im relating everything to some video or show but a youtube i watched from a singer/songwriter type suggested to keep a memopad to jot down lyrics or melodies.or at least hum them in the phone for later so as to remember.

@abitrusty Thanks! Haven't seen the Maine cabin show--sounds interesting.
Yeah, I couldn't have done the 2nd violin part without getting it into musescore first. I'm not a "by ear" player--but I am a big "documentation" type

It has a mountainish sound to it. I picked up on that when I heard it. It really is lovely. Your title is perfect.
@Mouse Thanks! Not sure what the mountainish is--but obviously, I must think so, too, subconsciously maybe, since I thought of my grandparents' place.

🤔 Very interesting... the chicken or the egg. (lol)
Glad you went with your memories of your Grandparent's place & not the etude!
💖 that you took what started as a thorn and produced a blossom!
Great story & great composition... keep feeding that creative calling. 🤗

The "mountainish" I mention is just a feeling of where I a, when I listened to it. To me, it put me in the mountains, like Appalachian, not Rockies. Does that make sense? Sometimes when I listen to music, it takes me places. Maybe not the same places as other people, but that is what I meant. I have to be really drawn into a piece for this to happen, and I was with this.🐭
@Mouse I'm flattered--thank you
