marikoli - well done at 8 months ! Sweet - I notice the "open" left hand with scarcely a hint of the thumb showing over the neck ( !!!! ) allowing vibrato - I still had the death-grip at that stage ( well, that's a BIT of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean ) - yeah - well done, thanks for the post Cool !

I had the death grip too and I think I'm still holding too tight. But it's getting better. In December I had posted a question about this on the forum. And I received answers about how important it is to have an "open" left hand. I did try that and at first it was very hard and felt weird and my intonation was completely off. But now, I think I'm pretty much used to it and it gets easier. Now let's hope my vibrato becomes more smooth and that I can sustain the notes more (longer/stronger).
Thanks everybody for your comments! It's really nice to be here and be able to share the love for the violin with others. Hope you're all having a nice day!

Thanks @kim-d, I really love this song too. and the funny thing it that I also tried to play it when I was playing for 3 of 4 months, just like you. But I found it very hard still. Now, I've tried to play it again and it was much easier already. And I also recently started to practice vibrato. You'll get there soon too!
Keep enjoying and thanks for posting. By the way, what else are you practicing now?

I'm practicing easier songs like Scarborough Fair, Greensleeves, Stars Spangled Banner, Star Wars theme (the ending is a little tricky), and Amazing Grace. What violin do you have?
I just noticed a chin rest in the center of the violin. That may make doing vibrato easier. I will need to ask Pierre if that would be the case.

Hi @kim-d, those are great songs to practice!! I did practice Greensleeves, Amazing Grace and Star Wars theme too! Real fun to play! Good luck with your vibrato!!
I actually don't know much about my violin. a few months ago I did google a couple of hours to learn more about it, but I couldn't find much about it. Inside it says "Stradivarius Copy - Max Bruch" and it cost me about $300. I did put on better strings because it came with steel strings and I didn't like the sound much. I'm using Thomastik strings now. And I am using a carbon fiber bow. I guess some day I'll buy myself a better violin but for now I'm really pleased with it.

Hi everybody, hope you're doing well!
I've been playing the violin for 10 months now and it's more fun every month. This month I've practiced the Concertino in G Major by Komarowski. I actually didn't know Komarowski until a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I learned about him because I really like his music. Hope you like it too!
