Here is a video of me playing Happy birthday for my in-laws on my violin with new strings. I plan on posting it on each of their Facebook profiles on their birthdays on Feb.27th &28th.

Mmmm? DragonLady ya got to listen to yourself. Sounds like you are concentrating too much on reading the sheet music and not listening enough to your playing style. I don't mean to sound blunt or rude or anything just expressing what I hear.

facepalmI know but I have hard time remembering things that I have been struggling all my life. This is why I came to this site in the first place to relearn.

I'm sure they will be very happy that you did that DL :-)

One thing that helps a lot of people is to actually sing a piece at the same time as they play it. You can sing it in your head or hear yourself singing it as you play or actually hum it out loud at the same time. This should help you play with more feeling, more rhythmically and even help you hear the intonation.
You are doing the right thing, recording yourself and posting it here is a great way to improve.

Thanks for the post. Let us know their reaction.

Thats a good looking sword!  And once you learn the notes by heart its easier to put feeling in to your performance.

I asked my husband if he wanted to sing, he just came up with the excuse that he can't sing. I wanted a joined effort for his parent after all.

That is very common. Just try to tell him to be secure and not care what others think and that it is OK to make a fool out of himself. What is the worse thing that can happen. Or on the other hand. Don't make him sing. LOL
You did understand what I meant though right? Did you try singing? I mean so little that only you can hear it and mostly for practice but you can do it during a performance too. It could be much easier to hear someone else singing in your head, not for real, while you perform it.

I wrote the Happy Birthday version from Essential Elements for Strings on Noteflight to share what I was playing from. I just added the 'and many more' part. I'm still learning how to use Noteflight.

My in-laws liked the video. They told me in-person because they didn't know how to comment on Facebook. I had to teach my parents and in-laws (they are all in their early 50's) how to use computers.

facepalm

That's not very old...  frown

But it was a nice little prezzie for them, posting happy birthday to their Facebook walls.  Only you could have given them that.  I'll bet they loved it!

I've learned so much from my mistakes that I've decided to make some more.
