After posting my last weeks progress video, a friend of mine asked me if I was going to join him on the "dark side" and play some electric violin. I said "sure" and promised him this week I would do one on the electric violin.
Now, he is really good and plays a Mark Wood violin, super fancy, lots of strings, and mostly hard rock. So, I decided I did have to troll him a bit in response and do something that was definitely not hard rock or metal. (We have worked on group projects in the past, hard rock and metal guitar stuff).
Over the last year I have been playing around with EDM, and decided to go that route.
I did learn a couple of things doing this though. I had been practicing and learning the song on my Soloist. When it came time to record, I had to sit down and change my approach to bowing. The electric does not like digging in to the strings as much, and seems to favor longer and faster bow strokes, which really affected my staccato that I spent all week working on, and I do not think it came across as well.
Not that it was a loss of a weeks progress, and I still have much work to do on it. But, that will be done on the Soloist for sure.
If you are wondering which violin it is, it is a Shar Plug and Play 4 String Electric. Pierre reviewed this one, and it seems to be a decent electric for the price.

Thanks Greg!
And curse you! I am now trying to figure out how to make that wall look like Ten Forward in Star Trek TNG!
