Hi All,
My name is Stefan Avalos and I made a movie called Strad Style. If you play the violin, stare at your violin, have pondered making or even MADE a violin - this movie will be right up your alley.
Trust me - you've never seen anything like it before.
Hope this doesn't seem like spam; i'm just trying to get everyone in the violin world to know about it as it has just become available on Streaming HD and Home Video.
Here's a link to a trailer:
And to the official website:
I hope to hear from you.
Thanks!

Sounds very interesting to me, if you like violins, why not stick around and give advice! We have a forum that is for luthiers and DIY enthusiasts! Lots of people here have attempted varying degrees of DIY that have posted their project pictures, so that others can benefit from their experiences, whether they were successes or failures.

Sure will.
I'm more of a player than a maker (besides being a movie director). Makikng the movie put me in touch with a lot of fine players and violins. In fact, I just got to play the Abergavenny Stradivari last night!!! How about that?!
Advice... practice practice practice. LOL.
I think anyone who has done any fiddling around with diy fiddle making (couldn't resist) will find the movie deeply humorous.
Thanks again!
Stefan

Stefan, welcome to the forum and thanks for your follow-up post. After watching your trailer I was convinced to purchase a copy of your movie from iTunes. I haven't had a chance to watch yet, but look forward to doing so.
Fiddlerman's forum is made up of young and old fiddlers and violinists from fresh beginners to practicing professionals and semi-professionals. Many of us started violin many years ago but life got in the way and we didn't keep with it. With the help of this forum we're encouraged to give it another try. We all have one thing in common, we love music and want to make it.
Thanks for your work.

I am one of those interrupted players was in the school orchestra until 1960-61 then moved to a town with no school orchestra and no violin teacher. I inherited my Grandfather's violin and now in my 60's am trying to relearn on it. I LOVE the violin!

Stefan, my wife and I watched the first 100 minutes tonight before we had an appointment we had to get to. The sole character is quite an enigma. Occasionally you wonder if he's off his medication , but then he shows so much talent in very adverse circumstances (no heat so the hide glue can't set!) that you begin to admire him. Is his desire to build a "strad style" (and comparable) violin realistic, or is this just a fantasy. But you see the proof that he has built other violins that sound good, but he is SO low tech! His deadline in the Netherlands is really troubling.
I have to say we're eager to see the remaining minutes of the movie, so as far as getting the audiences full attention you have succeeded!
I commend your cinematic presentation, the photography is beautiful and the low-key personal shots are great.
You get a thumbs up from the family viewers.
I'll update when we see what happens in the last several minutes:)
Thanks

Stefan, we finished watching the movie at lunch this afternoon. I must say the ending was exciting. I don't want to make any comments that will give away the ending to others, so I'll just say, thank you for a moving and fun movie. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
One criticism though... being that there are a bunch of us folks that have been around for a LOOOOONG time and have hearing that is not like it was at one time, the addition of a subtitle track (CC) would be greatly appreciated
Regards

Bob, From the bottom of my heart - Thank you for watching the movie! So glad you enjoyed it.
CC - there are CC subtitles on the movie. Were you not able to turn them on? Let me know and also, let me know which service you used to watch the movie. I'll alert them to an issue, if there is one.
Many many thanks and hopefully you can recommend the movie to your friends and family.
all the best,
Stefan

Stefan, glad to watch, it was really fun.
I used iTunes to view. For some reason it wasn't running in VLC which is my normal viewer. I imagine iTunes supports CC's in some form, but I'm not that familiar with the app.
I will try to find out how to enable the captions. I miss a lot of conversation that I'd like to have understood. I'll definitely watch again.
I do indeed recommend the movie to others, especially if they are interested in violin building or just playing.
BTW: I notice your bio pic shows a Canon EOS C-type, camera, which model was this? I've always wanted to be in TV or film production, but never got far and still live in the vidicon days
Thanks again for a fine production.

Hi Bob,
That's a Canon c100. Great camera, though a few years old now. That was my main camera on Strad Style.
