Because this is a special event, if you participated and were not able to record it, please reply stating you participated in it and your thoughts. This way, this topic is in one place. I did not want it in the Breakroom, where videos are not necessarily a part of the topic.

Were others in your neighborhood participating? Did anyone come out and watch?

If there are no videos shared, I will move this to the Breakroom.

So, I played Taps outside today. I did it a few times. When my husband recorded it out front, the wind was an issue. After I played it out front, we went to the side of the house.

The violin is an American made American Folk Fiddle made by my step-grandfather before I was born. I never knew him. I thought it was appropriate to use that violin.

This was a wonderful experience.

No recording, but played a YEV104 electric violin through a Fishman Loudbox amplifier. I think they heard me in the next county.

Bravo, Grandpafiddle! What a way to pay tribute to the fallen by playing so all could hear! Bravo. I am, also, so glad you participated in this memorial topic and letting us know how you honored the fallen.

I wasn't too sure about recording. I played it a bunch of times on each instrument. Good thing the neighbors were still gone.

I don't stand when I play my violin or viola, so that was an adjustment. Plus, I had to balance myself on the uneven side of the house.

I am so happy that the best takes had the old barn my father-in-law built many decades ago behind me.

I hope I honored our fallen military. I think of them often, not just today.

Edited for clarity.

@Mouse - thanks for posting both the violin and the cello versions - beautiful! Love that you played it on the 'old' fiddle - and I went back and checked out the barn too

@JohnG - really good version, I can hear your improvement everytime I listen to one of your video's.

@Grandpafiddle - wish I had heard you

Well, I played on my front porch at 3pm - just 4 simple notes, but could not make it sound good no matter what, but in my heart I honored the fallen heroes that died to protect our country.  I played the violin and followed up with a version on the harmonica.  God Bless America.

@Mouse  Wonderful job playing both on the fiddle & the cello!  Love the barn & field background!

@JohnG  Excellent intro--thoughtful words.  And great playing!

@Grandpafiddle I think a whole lot a people heard you with that amp! Sorry to miss it here on the forum!  Thanks again for giving us the heads up about this event!

@LinDee You honored the fallen--that is what counts!

I have to admit, this was the second time I played it--the 1st time, I missed the record button on the Ipad, so I had to redo a few minutes after 3pm.

I submitted to the Taps for Veterans Youtube, but I think it's taking some time for them to process all the videos they're getting.  I've got it posted on my Vimeo as well:

Thank you, @ABitRusty. I love my cello. I loved being able to do Taps outside on it. My husband helped me lug the chair, endpin holder, cello and bow outside.

I enjoyed taking part in honoring our fallen military. It was an honor to do it. We all have to do this again next year. I will start a thread for 2023 when the time comes. This was great.

I love how Grandpafiddle used an amp, LinDee used a harmonica, too. I am glad it was mentioned in this topic. Anyone else who participated and didn't record, please let us know what you did and anything else you would like to share. Let us know if anyone in your areas did it, too.

I live in the country and no other neighbors participated. I don't think any of them play any instruments. Maybe, I will take GrandpaFiddle's lead and use my electric cello and blast it with the bass amp I use with it. Now there is an idea. I will have to remember this.

@Mouse - Really nice! Especially loved the tone you got with the cello, awesome.

@Grandpafiddle - Ya' know, I think I may have heard you! (j/k lol). Wish we could have heard it and thanks for telling/reminding us of this.

@LinDee - Glad you tried even if we couldn't hear you. It's the thought that counts.

@SharonC - Excellent playing, as usual. Nicely setup and I don't think I'd fit in my dress greens.

Thank you, JohnG. Much appreciated. It was great so many of the forum participated, either by playing Taps (whether recorded or not), or visiting the topic thread and commenting.

@SharonC - oh thank you for your service  - as well as others on this forum - I loved your presentation as much as the playing!

thanks again @Grandpafiddle for bringing this to our attention - I hope I hear about it again next year or remember (can do it myself but hopefully it is an 'event' again).  I did record myself, so I can hopefully do it again next year and compare - LOL, I will enjoy that IF I see/hear a year's worth of improvement!  That could be pretty cool.  Though, in this case, I am just really happy to have a way to show in some small way how much I appreciate the sacrifice made by others...
