Thanks for taking a look Mouse and Emily.
Emily it isn't correct in bits, especially the break, and a bit rough over all to be honest, but you know how it is, couldn't wait to post what I had. I was flushed with success lol. I tried it on the leccy first, which was a mistake. I will be doing it again and re posting It in a week or so when I am more happy with it, I will be leaving this one on till then. I intend getting a bodhran and recording the beat with it, I went looking the other day in Manchester and they wanted nearly 250 usd for one, couldn't believe the price they are charging, if I could get a wooden sieve from somewhere I would buy a skin and make my own.
if you want to listen to a great version with brilliant film clip watch this,
Fairly good representation historically of how the Scots fought, even down to the weapons, claymore, long axe and ballock knives, good depiction of the Highland charge for which they were famous, only thing missing is the targs that some would carry which was a small round shield. Not seen this film but everyone knows the Shakespeare story.

@stringy -
Very cool scene!
I originally heard the music in the 1992 film, "Last of the Mohicans" - hardly no words throughout the movie, it was ALL music... a lot of variations on The Gael! Last of The Mohicans Soundtrack Didn't even know that Dougie McLean composed it until later. I play closest to 'The Kiss' (from the soundtrack) that I learned from Jenny O'Connor - her tutorial on the roll was my 1st ornament!
Anyway, you might find some inspiration from the soundtrack to play around with.
Definitely understand about instrument prices - almost fell over dead when I saw the price of a little carbon fiber whistle (tin whistle) I thought might be nice for the kids!!! ...they got an ocarina, instead. 😉

good job on this @stringy! The producers of Last Of The Mohicans or maybe it was Alasdair Fraiser suggested using the track from Dougie MaCleans album The Search when working in the soundtrack.
thanks for sharing! nice fiddling...enjoyed listening!
I believe i got that story from rosin the bow podcast... hopefully i got that correct. 🙂
That was really Good, not keen on the beginning but the actual tune we are all familiar with was excellent, I noticed he puts an accent on the last beat of some of the phrases which makes it sound more Highland, like a Highland dance, da, dada, da DA da,da,da,da if you know what I mean. I'm away for a week from Thursday so no playing at alll during that time for me, my back needs a rest anyway to be honest, been really bad lately, I am waiting for scans on it, but I already know its not good.
Emily, one of my favourite films, everything about it photography music the lot. I was obsessed when I was about 7 years old with the book, that and call of the wild.
I was looking at 'the hot violinist' she is really good, I even looked at her tutorial myself the other night, she gives a lot of stuff for free. Instrument prices are crazy, I am going to get a new bodhran, one of my probs is recording, I have an eight track but can't wear headphones and get the timing correct, it's strange but on the guitar or bodhran I can drop straight in any kind of music and play along, struggle with the recorder though.

AbitRusty, I honestly don't remember you doing that one, would be great if you did it again though especially if you used that program, unreal engine, brill stuff. I really will look forward to it if you get the time, I know its hard fitting things in, I can't practice everything anymore myself, I can't find the time.
Sharon thanks for taking a look, I sometimes think there isn't enough time to learn everything I would like to do, especially to do things justice. Personally there isn't one tune I have ever done that I have been happy with and that really is the truth.
It goes like this, violin, a year at least just to learn how to hold a bow, then change it all to suit yourself, which takes another year, , another year to try to learn where the notes are, another year to start your ears playing in tune, another year, to play softly, then another year to play louder, another year to learn it all again in third position, at least a year for vibrato, how does anyone get to a pro standard, it's so difficult I sometimes think why does anyone bother, are we all masochists?

@stringy im glad you dont remember it! makes me feel better lol
It may be end of summer or fall b4 playing with unreal again... idk..maybe. hoping to get some REAL footage over the next few months. 🙂 but unreal is interesting and fun to mess with. just need to sit down with a fiddle for a while honestly. ill stop before the whaaaambulance gets called lol..
Thanks Mark, it's one of those tunes that everyone has heard and is into it's a bit hypnotic the way it keeps rolling around.
Emily you are right about the five year old, there is no doubt about that it must be the same process as how they learn to talk, becomes second nature.
AbitRusty, hope you don't leave it that long, will look forward to it though, I wanted to try that program myself buT it won't run on my old computer, so I use the tablet for everything now, some of the things you can do on a phone though are pretty amazing, I was filming super slow mo drops of water the other day, never ceases to amaze me the technology, anyway if you use the unreal or don't still looking forward to your next recording.

Samsung S22 is the one I have, I filmed the two singing vids on it, with a couple of filters on the wild mountain thyme one, the parting glass was straight out the camera, the light inthe cathedral was superb. I am having a look at the app you said and I am going to see if there is a Samsung alternative.

I dont believe there is an android version of that app yet. i tried filmic pro, which probably is the closest thing but not made by them, for a while but the samsung app seemed as good. Just thought if you had an ios device it could be something to checkout. blackmagic design makes some great stuff..
