Nice done! I like the sound and intonation. No critical bouncing was detected =)

It's the difficult thing to get rid of bouncing, but as You started to work on it once and keep it in mind - it gets better! I think, You're on the spot where it's good as it goes now. I had uncontrollable bouncing on downbows less than a year ago. Followed FiddlerMan's recomendations and just looked after the sound =) Now i have it mostly in my nightmares, LOL!

Good work! thumbs-up

Kinda: You don't look mad---you look earnest.  You are not playing The Yellow Rose of Texas in this video.

I can't say that your intonation was perfect, but it was never too far off.  Well done IMO. I hope I can do as well after a while.

I don't think you look mad, KindaScratchy.   You just look like you are concentrating on playing the piece well.

Playing good is one thing, looking relaxed and personable while playing is another.  Have to get the first down before worrying about the second, if indeed the second is ever anything you actually care about in comparison.  It is sounding good though!  Coming right along.

Hi KS!   I have been practicing this for the past 3 months.  You are sounding good.  Keep it up.

If in fact, you can't play as well as Diane, I wouldn't be too critical about her intonation. Her intonation was just fine.

How about putting up a video yourself ?   hats_off

Not ready to put up a video of myself yet.  Maybe later.

I don't think I was being "too critical".   The lady seems level-headed and seems as if she can handle being told that her playing was not perfect.  I could be wrong, but I don't expect that she feels harmed.  I like to treat an adult as if they are an adult.

Most of us are better critics than we are doers.  I can hear better than I can finger.

Maybe you are suffering something like a Stockholm Effect from when Oz nearly bit your head off that time. :-)

I am not seeing an emoticon that would express it, so I guess I will just blurt out that I hope my response was sufficiently mild.

@RosinedUp - youve been "fiddlestixed!" Ha ha!

Not only does the camera add 10 pounds (yeah, thats my story and Im stickin to it) but it also seems to highlight and amplify all the mistakes you make. I thought I was rocking it out and then I play back my vids and Im like "More Bow you idiot!"! I also find that I still play better, am more relaxed and sound like a symphony when I am not recording myself. Yesterday I did 31 beginner tunes in 2 hours posting to youtube. Now, I have to go back and perfect em more, rerecord and repost! gheeze. So Cudos to you Dianne for even posting, and to everyone else.....just appreciate the effort and try not to type a critique, rather post a response vid that shows what you can do. I think the goal is to help everyone reach their potential, but it seems to have sunk to point out flaws. Personally, I welcome any and all comments it dont bother me at all.

Thanks for all the nice comments and helpful feedback everyone! I definitely do not take offense at any comments on my playing (or appearance for that matter). :) That's why I'm here on fiddlerman.com.

I've only been playing for seven months so I know that I'm far, far, far from perfect (I could keep going with the "fars" but don't want to over do it.) I hear all the squeaks, scratches and off-tones. That's why I need your help!

I'm with you there, Rob. My playing sounds and looks way better in my own head when I'm playing alone and no camera turned on. That's why I find videos are so very helpful, even if I never shared one with anyone else. At least I can see what I'm doing wrong. Doesn't hurt to get confirmation from others, though.

Thanks again!

I would like for us all to respect each others constructive criticism as well as each others ideas, posts, and videos. Remember that we can say when we post that we do not want help or criticism.

In my opinion RosinedUp did it in a nice way and also said:

Well done IMO. I hope I can do as well after a while.

We are here to learn from each other and the truth is that no ones intonation is perfect. Certainly not mine. Every time I hear myself play on a video I am disappointed.

I do understand you, Fiddlestix, wanting to defend Diane but I want us to be able to give our opinions openly and honestly without being worried that someone will get offended. Let's just do it respectfully OK?

I thought it was beautiful. As a spiritual song, I personally find a serious expression appropriate. Thanks for sharing.

Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art. Charlie Parker
