I learned this from FM's video on Monday.
I know the strokes are short...I am trying to find the note sounds....I
No tape or guides...(yet).... I must have played this over 100 times....still having trouble with the tones of the notes....

Hi Gail. ...thank you..
I just played that for hubby ...we both cringed...I think he was surprised I put that up...."you posted that?".....I had bad practice sessions tonight....that was the best....just wanted to be brave and post what I had. I can do it a little better. (little)....
I know there are slow parts and seemingly rushed parts....
I have been practicing in front of my iPad camera... Ugh.... I am not always happy with what I see...I am working on a straight bow....I am happy to report that is not the worst of my problems. Haha.
Will start practicing in front of the mirror. For practice I do the one octave C major scale...( I have not learned the other half).... twinkle and open strings...I need to go through some more FM videos...I really want another song to play...
I came home from work....made dinner and a dish for an event tomorrow..got a stomach ache and sniffles.....but I told everyone.... I need / want to practice....so I did...it was not the best...but I was so happy to spend time doing it....
Nice to see you...what are you working on now?
Ps ....will do a real video soon..almost ready....
Cheers

thats great. makes me feel better about my bad practice evenings. Sometimes all I can do is scratch and then put a really nice rendition of Scarborough Fair.
I'll go off and play twinkle, twinkle and experiment to see if I can upload it.
(be kind, I have only had 4 lessons!!)
I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....

Toni, don't beat yourself up! You're doing fine. Your tone sounds good to me. I used to be a perfectionist myself, but I found it got in the way of progress. Now I just forge ahead recklessly, and when I go back to previous exercises they seem easier. Good job!
I've learned so much from my mistakes that I've decided to make some more.

CPO,
I am sorry to have to tell you this, but that sounded GREAT
The violin is not an easy instrument to learn to play. Even being off just a tiny bit can make a difference, unlike other instruments.
For the time you have played. I think you should be jumping up and down and your husband should be patting you on the back and Saying " Wow, that sounds great "
Keep it up and before you know it you will jammin to songs you really like and look back and laugh at this.
Enjoy it. That is what it is all about.

Thank you all. This Sunday I will post a video of my playing posture. I can read the forums at work but I can't seem to post on my out of date office computer...
Today I deciphered Over The Rainbow and wrote it out... as a long term monthly goal...I'd like to start playing with that. Lofty...I know!
My goals this weekend are to watch and follow all the beginner videos and practice with Fiddlerman's tutorials. Scales...strings....more Twinkle...
This is the best site ever for learning and inspiration!!!!!'
Ps...there was a lot of cringing with my video tonight at my mom's 68th birthday party....in a fun way....my 29 year old Nephew said.... "I think the violin is so cool..". I want to learn....how much is a violin? When I told him what he could start with..he was happy..
Fiddly thoughts and sweetest dreams....
And thank you again for the support.

@ Mad - thank you.
I am feeling better about my TwinkleTwinkle.... My Over the rainbow... I am having trouble finding what I believe to be the correct tone on the a string, but I know it is okay because open a is good. It is that third finger position that seems to make it or break it for me.
I had some good practice time last night....looked in the mirror for a bit.... I don't like doing that very much.
Thanks for the comments.
I have lots of time to practice and read comments and watch Fiddlerman videos today....it is a good day!!!!!

coolpinkone,
Not bad, in my opinion. Thanks so much for sharing your song, and now that you have allowed us the privilege of listening, you are on your way! I haven't reached that point yet. Hope you keep having mostly good days!
Gail, I love the way you say you 'forge ahead recklessly.' LOL. That inspires me.

A week later... I am not exactly pleased.... But here it is..

You sound a lot more confident, and you seem to have practiced a bit more There is a clear improvement as far as I can tell. Though again I must remind you I am no expert. It just sounds better. More... Correct.. I am a bit hazy so I can't really argue my opinions. But one thing's for sure. You are headed the right way

Thanks for the post. Keep up the baby steps forward and you will surprise yourself in the end. As long as you are improving you can't be disappointed.
As always, focus intensely on intonation. Learn to recognize which notes are too high and which are too low.
Posting your videos will help you improve faster. We could give better advice if we get to see you play. It matters not the slightest how you look.... Really
Yea, if you have seen my videos you know that's right!
No matter where you go, there you are!
