Hello. A year after I started learning vibrato ... here I am. I wonder if I should do again some exercises to improve it ๐Ÿค”.

The video is a draft (so there are quite a few mistakes) of the piece I just started, the 1st movement of the concerto rieding 36.

ย

And I'm taking the opportunity to show you what it looks like with my violin equipped with strings an octave lower Lol (you know?)

Not always good sound on the E string (nasal), and on the G string (must press harder) but it's fun to try.

@maudmaudย  Nice playing! Those octave strings sound pretty good--do they feel a lot different?ย  Are they thicker?

There are so many different ways to approach practicing vibrato.ย  I think some people get it right away, & others take more time.ย  I have been one of those people who has taken more timesmile.ย  Tension is the biggest obstacle.ย  I've done a lot of different exercises--but after all that, I've just tried to incorporate it more in the pieces I practice, and I'm happy with my progress.ย

I think it sounds good, my biggest obstacle is also looseness in the hand, very difficult in my opinion to become completely flexible.

I've heard from other people who have tried octave strings that it's best to use a viola bow with them. They're much heavier and thicker than other violin strings, and even heavier than viola strings.

For just starting this piece it's sounds good,

The octave strings don't sound to bad either, tha would be fun to play around with.ย

@maudmaud -

LOVE that you are trying Octave strings!ย

You sound GREAT - lovely piece!

I really wanted to try them, but Fiddlershop was sold out of the Sensicore Octave strings when I bought my Viola.ย

...then I heard Sensicore stopped making Octave strings!ย

What brand are you using on your violin?ย

I bought these strings to accompany my husband who is beginner cello, and I installed them on a $150 violin (stentor student) that I never used lol (not my "real" violin). I didn't need to modify the violin, the installation was easy even if the strings are thicker than the classical strings. Helicore Octave Violin String https://a.co/d/7OB5PWq

And yes, I'm thinking of buying a viola bow to play with this violin, it will be better.

Concerning the vibrato, yes the hardest thing is to be relaxed lol so when I'm alone it's fine... but in front of the teacher, much more difficult ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Sometimes even impossible to have a vibrato ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@maudmaud - You are coming along great. Try putting more weight on the left side of your finger and you'll notice the angle improving greatly on your fingers.
Keep up the great work.
