Really appreciate what you must learn by ear. I believe it's an important skill.
Since I haven't been playing for very long, I still need to imitate what I enjoy hearing - so, no improvisation on my own, yet.

@VirtuosoCapixaba -I use pieces of music that I like, in the same way. 😊
I often tell people that if you want to have motivation to practice you have to figure out ways to make practice enjoyable. For me using repertoire is a great way to do that.
Want to practice scales? Pick a section of a piece you like. Double stops? Pick a section of a piece you like. Bowings? Pick a section of a piece you like. In my experience doing that in addition to exercises & etudes helped me improve my technique.
