Just had the camera running to review some things, but thought I'd share my latest take on "When I'm 64" - that accursed tune evolves every time I play it - sorry about the foot-tapping sounds- I was on a roll... hahahaha feature=youtu.be

TY Pete @Pete_Violin ! Glad it made you smile - cool !
yeah, for me, fiddling is FUN, nothing else. No aspirations to play in an ensemble or group (well, I do any time the opportunity arises of course).
As regards the bow hold - well, I vary it. I knew I was going to try out some spiccato in the practice take (that's really why I had the camera running, to have a closer look at my flying staccato or spiccato - whichever I ended up trying...) If I know I'm going to use a - let's just call it a "bouncy bow stroke" - forget about the actual technique - I'll tend to move my grip up the stick.
I also find, for some reason, that, for me (and that's just me) even for normally played pieces, and for the type of things I play, I seem to have more subtle, and finer control of the bow by moving slightly up the stick. I understand all the stuff about the use of the pinkie and its use on the frog, but, I'll never need the finesse that can bring - and you'll regularly see my pinkie just flying in the air.
I'm just happy to be able to pull tunes that are half-way-recognizable out of the devil's instrument
