I just did this on my viola with its new Obligato strings, I actually used my Fiddlerman Pro Series Violin Bow.

Hey, @Fiddlerman What do you think?

@Mouse  Sounds great! Nice, steady pace and good tone--Obligatos sound good on your viola smile

Thanks, Sharon. I think the Obligatos are a really nice fit.

I think this is my best one and I felt really comfortable with the bow.

I am thinking of doing Memory with my violin bow. That will really show a difference or whether it is just me.

Just a little background of Ashokan Farewell. Think it is a Civil War song? Think again.

Ashokan Farewell, Jay Ungar 1982

A song about the sadness of one of the owners of a Dance and Fiddle Camp, that he and his wife ran, ending for the 1982 Summer's session. And, in my state! And the town, Ashokan, former town as it is now a reservoir, in a beautiful area of the state, Catskills! I don't live anywhere near that area, but went there a couple of times.

I was pleased it was not actually any war song. I was a little upset loving it so much. Since learning this, I feel so much better loving and playing it. Because it was connected to any war, I always really did not want to love it as much as I do.

The center is not longer connected to SUNY New Paltz. The land it was on was sold and split up. I won't go into the specifics, but I do believe it still goes on.

Updated Ashokan_Center Info

Here is a link to the Jay Ungar and Molly Mason Family Band playing Ashokan Farewell. It is 5 minutes or so lomg, so if you want listen to Jay Ungar alone playing then fast forward or skip to where everyone plays.

Some info might be outdate now, but the gist is there.
