Youtube subtitles, lol! (if they are on because it's my default, you'll need to find out how to switch them on)

Good news in the UK - what with the recent relaxations of the Covid-19 lockdown, socially distanced beer-gardens are open again!

Doesn't help me though, I'm a cider drinker....  facepalm ta-da! drummer

Yay for beer gardens! I'm not sure if they work so well in Scotland, though, lol!

roflol @Gordon Shumway  !!  I'm not sure which reading I put into that - possibly (a) due to our generally, and wonderfully abysmal summer weather, or (b) due to our nation's alleged (and I stress alleged, it's all fake news, Bill said with a straight face) predilection for beer-drinking

Hahahaha - either / both readings work LOLOL

I was definitely only thinking of the weather, Bill!

(although there's also a midge problem in Scotland and other parts of Scandinavia during certain times of the year which I can never remember)

Everyone's probably heard this - brought back memories (I'm sure there's a fiddle in there somewhere).  I remember my parents went to see Charlie Taylor, needless to say this song was played around our house (I like other versions, too).  No wonder I have a weird sense of humor...

ROFL - nah, never @Gordon Shumway , it just brought back memories of a camping holiday, many years ago, when we visited the west-coast sometime mid-September.  We went to the local (only) pub in the small village for a couple of beers.  Of course the place was filled with the local folks (this is a small place, well off the tourist beaten-track).  We got there about 7pm, and the midges were a darned menace, to say the least.  Once inside, just chatting and mixing with the locals, I said something like "It's a bit desperate out there with the midges, is this normal for the time of year here or just a particularly bad evening?" One old chap at the table said, "Och aye, the midge is fair bad the-night.  Fair bad".

What struck me was the use of the term in the singular.  It made me picture one, single, VERY large evil-looking midge.  I even coined a term for this new creature - a "midgerigar" (something the size of a budgie).   Walking back a few miles to our tent, it was even worse - and yet a new version came to mind - "The Midgerisaur" - something the size of a T-Rex !

AndrewH - forgot to tell you the Barbers-Hao-P Quartet was crazy! Download OMG and Shocked Faces Emoji: Keyboard Stickers ...Image Enlarger  You have no clue - my family has been scared to death that the Grandkids would pick up on that!  It's a unbearable image - 6 little kids all running around singing the "Baby Shark" song! ...at the same time! ...all day long!lumpy-2134

BillyG - at least you don't have Texas mosquitoes!  I was in Texas for several Military Helicopter schools & EVERYTHING'S bigger in Texas!  When we lived in the Finger Lakes area of New York, there were "Black Flies".  Even a little further up North here in Michigan you'll find we have "Deer Flies" that circle your head waiting to dive-bomb.  ALL VAMPIRES!vampire18

@ELCBK

When we lived in the Finger Lakes area of New York, there were "Black Flies".

Hey! I am in the Finger Lakes area. I have no black flies. They are really bad in thr Adirondacks.

NY is divided into regions, I grew up in the Finger Lakes Region, but live in what they refer to as the Central NY region. We butt the Finger Lakes Region. We are in the middle of the actual Finger Lakes, even though we are considered Central NY.

BTW I am assuming it was military when you were in NY? What base?

The Bumblebee Flies!

Please ignore any typos. My typing ability on a real typewriter did not transfer to these device key pads.

cid - no, 1 year after we got out of the AF (Wichita, KS) we moved about 1/2 hour south of Auburn.  That was Autumn of 1980.

I had friends that had moved there that knew the Miller Beer Co was going to open a bottling plant soon and were accepting applications.  So, my Better Half and I rented a wonderful (huge) old farm house (little orchard, grape vines and barn!), applied for jobs and then waited... and waited...

I was kinda in a hurry to land a job before anyone knew I was pregnant (lol).  Long story/short - by the time Miller called to tell me I had the job, it was like 2 days before I was due - so I had to decline!  My sunny outlook was shattered when they didn't offer my BH a job - and we both had the same training & leadership skills (& he left a job at Cessna).   In Feb our daughter was born in Auburn.

That was a very hard Winter for us - back then it was very hard to get ANY job if you weren't a minority (my BH isn't).  Really wish we could've stayed - great friends & it was so beautiful there!

...I remember thinking how wonderful ALL the little back roads were all paved...

Feels like this joke was on me.
