Since I love how Pachelbel's Canon sounds, I've decided to work on learning each violin part (4 total), record myself with each, and then put them all together in an end video. I don't know how long it's going to take me to work on this but I'm going to do it. When I eventually get it completed, I'll share it with you all. I've been a bit MIA here and with practicing my violin due to a variety of reasons. However, I'm slowly getting back into it.. :)

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this on their own and how it went for them. I know that Fiddlerman did a group project with this song a while back and I did watch it. That along with encouragement from my husband is what has made me go ahead and decide to do it. Wish me luck and let me know if any of you has done this AND if you have a video you could share with me!!! Thanks in advance!!

@StaceyC It's one of my favorites. Still learning it. I watch Pierre's version on half speed because his fingers are so fast.

Good luck. Can't wait to see how your video turns out. I am willing to bet it will be great.

I love that piece too, Stacey.

I'm looking forward to hearing/seeing it too and curious to learn something about what apps you use to edit it together.

That would be great StaceyC ! That's beautiful music.

I try Pachelbel now and then, but never manage it. I did try to record a 4-part thing once though. The end result left a lot to be desired, but that was fun. I had lots of trouble sync-ing the audio parts though (with Audacity) : what software are you planning to use ?

You don't need to learn different parts, just learn one part and play it as a canon.

A canon is a piece that can be played starting at different times and work together. The Pachelbel Canon can be played over every 4 measures, depending on how it's written. If you would like to play another part you play the cello part which repeats the same measures thoughout.....

Thank you for the tip, Fiddlerman! :)

As for the other posts, I don't really know what I'm going to end up with as far as for recording myself. In the past, I'd use my DSLR to record and then just used the free movie maker app that you can get for Windows. However, I am going to look into expanding and try something else. The Movie Maker is good but it's very limited in what you can do.

audacity is a great and free application that would work perfectly. Give it a shot.

Pierre's recommendation Audacity is a good one, as far as free multi-track audio software is concerned. It sounds like your desired end product is a video, however.

So, you'll need either a video editing program that will let you combine and sync multiple video track or you'll need to mix multiple audio tracks in an audio program like Audacity, then sync the mixdown audio track with a video file in a video editing program.

Here's an an example of a video I created of myself playing a tune on multiple video tracks (this was for International Talk Like a Pirate Day, which explains the silly costume):

https://youtu.be/-E4WPuSMugI

Here's an example of a video I created where I recorded the video and audio separately (The mandolin audio was recorded simultaneously with the video using a digital audio recorder. The guitar was a separate audio track.), then combined everything in the video editing software:

Regardless of what equipment or software you use, the key to syncing everything up -- like with Fiddlerman's group projects -- is playing along with a click track or a backing track on all video and/or audio recordings.

Hope that helps.

@KindaScratchy My version of Whiskey before Breakfast usually ends quite differently, with an old man staggering and an early nap.

That was such a beautiful piece. You have a gift.

Thanks, @Shane "Chicken" Wang ! WBB is one of my favorite fiddle tunes. Haven't mastered it on the fiddle yet, but it's on my to-do list.
