Interesting. Thanks for teaching me something new. I didn't see anywhere to convert ABC though. I guess it would have to be on a special note writing format for that to work though. Wonder if Finale has a plugin for that.

Yes Barry,

I did that after your first post but I was wondering if there was something to convert the other way. Back to ABC. Could be good for some of my own parts and those people who can't read music but know ABC well.

Most music notation programs will allow you to export the music file as a midi. You can then import that midi into an ABC editor like ABCNavigator and save as an ABC file. The ABC format is really only for easy e-mailing, etc. and sharing among many operating systems.

Here are a couple of links to lists of info and program links -

There are a gazillion sources for ABC fiddle tunes on the 'net - a Google search brings up more than you can easily keep track of smile

Hi all!  This is an old thread.  Some of you are using abc notations(Kindascratchy-Diane is one who uses abc notation).  The converter link given in Barry's post can be used to obtain sheet music in PDF format.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Suresh. I love the fact that so many fiddle tunes are available for free in ABC notation.

It's so easy! All you need is MuseScore (free music editing software) and the ABC Import plug-in.

Then, just google any traditional tune title and "ABC notation" and you'll find free sheet music that you can import into MuseScore -- customize, if necessary -- then print it or save it as a PDF file that you can load onto a tablet, if you've gone electronic with your sheet music.

After you import it into MuseScore, you can even create your own click tracks by adding a percussion part.

So, yes, I love ABC notation!
