Well tomorrow is Friday, July 20. A sad day in the Keese household. But it can also be a good day as well. Tomorrow I send my Franz Hoffman Prelude, aka "Hoff" back to Shar Music. Hoff was a rental I got for Father’s Day. It was my intent to buy. However as fate would have it, I was also blessed a few days later with news of a second violin coming from a family member. Two violins in my house...woohoo!!!
Sadly this union is not meant to be. (So says my wife...) She does not understand that I really like Hoff and wish to keep him as well. But she says that since I got Ole Roy (my el cheapo violin from my aunt) that I do not need, nor can we afford Hoff. If we were going to buy him this fall, why can we not afford him now?? I do not understand female logic. BUT!!! (Yes there is a "but" in here.) I have formulated a plan. This fall I am just going to have to BUY a new better quality violin. (Do not tell the Mrs.!)
However, there is also another alternative. (This is the good news part...) Ole Roy, who is a much laid back boy, needs a little TLC. I attempted to do the bridge work myself, but alas, live and learn, my first attempt was not good. (Roy sounds like a cat in heat!! -shiver-)
So Roy is heading' off to see the Doc (Luthier) tomorrow. He is going to get some bridgework done, get my D'darrio Pro-Arte strings put on and get a good professional tuning!! (Yea for Ole Roy!!)
So my fall violin? Well, if Ole Roy gets fixed at the Doc, has a great sound, then he'll be my go to violin for the Fall Classes I am taking. If he still sounds insufferable, or the Doc says...TRASH? Well then it looks like I'll be in the market for a new V. So please wish me luck during my separation from Hoff, keep me in your thoughts as I take Ole Roy to the Doc and hope that Ole Roy is the gem I hope he can be.

Oh my heart goes out to you - sounds like you bonded with the Hoff....I really hope the other violin works out for you...and if not then I am sure you will find a way....
My husband had another motive for getting me a violin, he said that because I practice and enjoy it so much it would stop me shopping....and that would save him some money!....I am not a big shopper, but he gets a giggle out of relaying the story to his friends....

Thanks y'all for the support. I did really like my offman, but sometimes we just have to let 'em go. As for Ole Roy, he is gonna be back sometime this week (better be sooner rather than later) and when he gets home, he'll have a nice CF Bow waiting to be puled across his strings!! It'll be like a family reunion...except without that weird uncle that always drinks to much and watch to show you what the inside of a cactus feels like. (Don't ask...I got some whoppers in my fam!
)
But it'll be a joyous occasion and I will shoot Dennis a sample of Roy's upgrade to see how he compares...that is, If Dennis is up to it?
