Aloha everyone,
I love Celtic music, so I decided to transcribe a few and attempt to learn the ornaments used in them. This is "The Rover Reformed" by John Playford, from the the album "Celtic Viol II - Treble Viol and Lyra Viol". I'm not sure of the name of the violist (the artists listed are Jordi Savall, Andrew Lawrence-King, and Frank McGuire - I think it's Jordi Savall, but I'm not sure), but he is very accomplished and makes his playing of this piece seem effortless. I really love this tune and I hope y'all can appreciate it as well. I transcribed a "basic" version and have included a copy of the tune from the album so that y'all can hear it with all the ornamentation. Enjoy!
EDIT: What I found interesting is that these viols cover the range from as low as a cello up to that of a violin. I'm not sure how many other tunes we can play on a violin, as some of them seem to go farther down than the range of a violin, but I may end up transcribing a few others. I need to get the first album now!
