This app and others like it have lots of good features, but I don’t need that much. I write out lead sheets -- the basic melody notes -- for tunes that I’m working on. When I cannot remember how to start a tune I can often visualize the first few notes that I wrote, and that’s enough to get the melody going in my head. It all flows forward from there.
Ah, the challenges of bad memory!
For my purposes, the GoodNotes app works fine. I have a template of the music staff and I just write in the notes. My reading/writing skills aren’t that great so I make plenty of mistakes, but the app allows me to easily move the dots around until I get it right. I can also change the color of individual notes to visually emphasize the most important notes. It’s also easy to copy and paste for repeats.
Of course the result is ugly, but it works well for me.

@Strabo yeah..for most stuff just jotting down by hand probably quicker and as good. And there are MANY different software packages that will notate and play scores. My main point here was bringing up that notion, included with some daws, has a mobile version. Thought that in itself would be helpful for some and for sure not saying notion the best or only way to go. just info.

I agree, it’s a very nice app, quite complete and relatively easy to use. It does have one advantage over my somewhat primitive approach: It has a playback feature that makes it simple to identify mistaken notes.
I’m not very good t writing notation so I make quite a few mistakes. I discover those mistakes by picking up my fiddle or mando and playing what I wrote. That makes my approach more cumbersome, but I go along thinking that the write-play-write-play routine somehow helps me through its repetitions.
Maybe some day I’ll get a little closer to the modern world!
And thanks for sharing this app!
