Avast thar, all ye scurvy sea-dogs - (yup you gotta talk like a pirate in this thread) -

Last year, we did a "Members Own Project" for "International Talk Like A Pirate" day. For those who were here and contributed then, you'll know about it already.

Last year's project was run by Cap'n @Ferret ( ye all knows the one I means 'ere - that grog soaked scurvy ol' sea-dog, John Luck! ).

Anyway - our cap'n from last year is unable to take command of the Good Ship FiddlerMan this year, so, I, Cap'n Grey Beard, be a-standing in.

We now have a real good number of new, and very active members (yayyy good on you all -thumbs-up) who may have been unaware of it - so here's the forum link to last year's project - https://fiddlerman.com/forum/s.....y-project/

The idea is to submit videos of you playing sea-shanties, or anything with a maritime connection.  Fancy dress is NOT optional - you must make every effort to look as piratical as possible !   New members - feel free to check out that thread above - there you will see some of us in the true insanity that has befallen us since having taken up fiddle playing!   These projects are great fun, just pick any piece/s you care to, do your own thing with them, and post 'em here.

There really IS an "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" - check it out on the web, and the day itself is 19th September - so we have around 60 or so days to do something, and Ferret and I both thought it wuld be a fine thing to fit in, between the actual FiddlerMan summer and Halloween group projects....

Ferret put in a lot of effort last year to help familiarize you with pirate talk, and pirate behavior - and I'll come back to this thread later and re-post some of his fine work so the information is all in one thread for any newcomers.

Now, swab the decks an' get yer fiddles a playin' ye rat-faced crew or ye'll all be keel-hauled afore the day be o'er.   Arrrrr, I means it !!!

Cap'n Grey Beard

Too funny, Bill. roflThe things we do for Fiddlerman.com. ;) (Still slightly regretting my decision to wear a quasi-pirate costume for last year's "Talk Like a Pirate" party.)

@BillyG

so matey mate... I mean er Capt'n how did the ale drinking end up for ye?  Did you drink yerself to shame and you sea varmit?

I se ye be actin' like a drunkin sailor again, so it must be time for ye to do some penance by playing a tune.

I think I am going to steal Dionysia's rum and see what kinds of fair sounds she'll be bringin' to the deck.

LOL !  Although the actual "day" is the 19th September, we're just "doing this for fun, for ourselves" - it's not as if we would post to the actual ITLAPD site - so although WE don't have an actual time limit, it would be good to hit the 19th, or within, say a week after that.   Anyway, these threads stay open, and you can always submit anything, at any time at all into the future...  no problem !

Aye, @coolpinkone - ye wicked wench - we managed tae down a couple o' that land-lubber stuff they calls beer - I just need tae get back to me ship fer a sup o' the proper grog...  as fer yer request to do penance fer my bad drinkin' behavior - I'll mebee hae a shot at The Irish Rover ( I *think* it is kind of classed as a sea shanty... ) - let's see what I come up with !

Arrrr me hearty wench !   Ye be a playin' fine ther' me lass !   It be a bringin' back memories o' them old days aboard the Pirate Vessel FiddlerMan !!!!   Yeeeee Haaaa, and thank 'ee muchly, 'tis well appreciated !     Arrrrhhh, indeed !

OK, seriously - I apologise, especially to @Ferret who set this up last year and "pushed things on" - I have been a bit remiss in keeping it going, I have to admit - other "things were calling"....   my fault entirely for not keeping on top of it - but it is most definitely heartening to get a submission !!!!  Thank You !!!

So, thankin' 'ee muchly @Fidelestre fer the fine tune there - weel done me lass !!!  Arrr !!!

---  following is a script from on-board the pirate vessel ( oh heck, I really have lost it, haven't I ? - well you all know that already... )

Cap'n Grey Beard ( aka Bill )  - "I shall be a-postin' one o' my own tunes in short time. "

Deck hand - "And, well, errr, what be "short time - there, cap'n?  Be ye' talking'  'bout 3/4 time or what?  And besides, what's the tempo, are we using swung-triplets, is that a down-bow at the start of bar 3, do you want a slur on the A-to-E string as we cross over or a direction-change, and what about the swung-eighths ????  Do you care what we do ?"

Cap'n Grey Beard - Nope, I don't care - just play that darned thing.....   ( followed by  sound of pistol shot and loud splash, as cap'n Grey Beard disposes of questioning deck-hand..... )

Hmmm... one less to worry about, then...

Hahahahahaha !!! Thanks again Fidelestre  - good on you !

The TLAP day 2015 party only stops once we reach TLAPD 2016 - so just post your sea-shanties any time !!!!!   Bring them on !

Here be a tune for all ye French corsaires. The little pirate was eager to join in:

https://youtu.be/MWC91T4jyhA

He hadn't practiced the tune in a while, but I couldn't stop him from grabbing his fiddle and joining the fun!

The tune is not really a shanty, but it is sort of maritime. It is called À la pêche aux moules, which means Fishing for mussels. My son learned the words at school last year.
