Just a "party" for individual submissions etc, not a "mixed down group project"

Well,  I've been a bit busy - but - I must have mentioned this elsewhere about 2 months ago - so finally, who's up for a fiddling along to Soldiers' Joy party ?

I'll get the cam set up tomorrow for a submission, but in the meantime, here's sheet and an mp3 (not me - LMAO - it's program generated) giving a "kind of clue" if the tune is new to you.

Don't forget though - the sheet is "just a starter for ten" - get a hold of the tune in your head and then just go do your own thing with it....

Looking forward to your submissions !

Yay! Glad you got this party started, Bill! I definitely plan to participate, though I can't say exactly when I'll be able to record and post a video. Looking forward to seeing/hearing others' renditions!

Oh yeah, you could add this to the list of bluegrass tunes to learn for the Joe Val Festival next weekend. :)

Cool, looking forward to what you all come up with - again - if it's new to you - there are dozens of renditions on you tube - all marginally different ( as it should be - it's a fiddle tune !!! ) - the sheet and audio on post #1 should be considered as nothing more than a guide for those new to the piece

Actually, I forgot - I have a dental appointment today - so I'll be away for the bulk of the day - I'll get my recording done tomorrow.....

EDIT:  Oh - meant to say for those new to the forum - the "Party" concept just runs-and-runs - no time scale - no limit on submissions - no particular tempo (play what you're happy with) - even play in a different key if you prefer, come back and add to the thread in a year's time - it doesn't matter - it's all for fun - and I didn't intend it to "clash" in any way with the "Game of Thrones Project thread" (cool-idea by the waythumbs-up) promoted by @intrepidgirl

Right - 2 weeks on - and my promise of recording "tomorrow", became "tomorrow...." and "tomorrow...."    Well I hate that (making a commitment and failing to keep it) !

Life just sometimes gets in the way - anyway - here's one of my takes on it - feature=youtu.be

Yes, it's a 1/5th down from the PDF score posted above, played in G on the "dark fiddle"

Looking forward to submissions from others - any time !

Nice Bill @BillyG ! I haven't forgotten about this party. I've been working on Soldier's Joy and might be able to record a video as early as this weekend. Looking forward to seeing/hearing others' interpretations.

Well, This is one of those songs that has been haunting me for years. I always try to get it going but always fall short. This past weekend, it just came together. Ok, I have a long way to go, but see where I can really have fun with it. Thoughts of creating my own back track and having Katha help me out I hope to make this submission even better. Well, after my third 14 hour day in a row (and 2 more still to go) here is my second day of finally playing Soldier's Joy.  Relax, enjoy and just a disclaimer... No cats were harmed in the filming of this video...tack så mycketsweden-4231

Yayyy!  Thank you @Ripton !    Well done !thumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-up

The version I videoed (apart from being slightly different - but that's fiddle for you and there's nothing wrong with that) doesn't quite get the "feel".  I like yours, it's more "fiddly" Cool !   I *do* also play it with much more bow-direction-changes - rather than the slurred/legato take above but - I can only do that slowly - for some reason as I go at it faster the co-ordination between bow arm and fingering just goes out the window - and right now I don't understand why, but I'm working on it.... LOL

Great job, Ripton!

I printed out the sheet music and am going to take a look at it after work today, see if it is something I can handle :)

Nice job, @Ripton ! thumbs-up

You play it a little differently than I do, but more like many recordings that I've heard and like. I'm going to try to analyze the parts you do differently and see if I can replicate them.

THANKS ALL!

@KindaScratchy:  I use Wicklund's Fiddle Method/ Viola. Using the sheet music but playing by ear from the CD. I think it's really only the last measure of A and B that I tweaked.

Ripton, Schaick and BillyG:  I like all your versions, very nice.  I am a newbie so have not added anything here, I am just trying to get a bit of a lilt and enjoy it rather than have it sound like a death march.  Here is a try at it after practicing for a week or two.  After listening to yours, I can see I could play with a few things that are not too hard so I might post something more later:
