Great idea.

Very cool Barry. Never heard that tune before. I like it.

May 10 "Birth Mother's Day". (Not telling my mom it's also 'Clean your room day')
My birth mother is Chinese, so I figured why not? Chinese song: Dream Pursuer.
(Kinda short. Gets repetitive without lyrics.)

Yay for May! I was just thinking on the way home tonight...I wonder if @Schaick is going to start that May party she was talking about on the chat. :)

I'm in. I've had my tune picked out since we chatted about it but I don't know when I'll have time to record. With any luck I can squeeze it in this weekend.

Great list of May days, Patty, but you missed one VERY important one: World Fiddle Day, Saturday, May 17th. http://www.worldfiddleday.com/

Great song @Panda-P.

Great songs @Barry. LOL!! Glad you explained the Cluck Old Hen was a song. My first thought was how dare he call me an old hen, my second thought, well I do resemble that remark!!

@KindaScratchy How could I have missed such an important day?! That might actually be the very day I started playing the violin last year.

Love it @Barry! I swear every time I see you post something it is a song I like to play as well. Wish we lived close together, I'd be jamming with you everyday. Here's my inspiration when I play Cluck Ol' Hen.

I think I might try recording this starting on another string. When I record the high strings it sounds so harsh.

It may not have May in the title, but I thought "The Flowers of Edinburgh" fit with the May theme, with all the lovely flowers that bloom this time of year. Here's my rendition, such as it is, which is inspired by Mark O'Connor's version on the "Liberty! The American Revolution" soundtrack.

http://youtu.be/LWH7-HrcQPo

This brings to mind one of my favorite jokes/riddles: If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?

(BTW, this is not the tune I originally wanted to do for this party, but the other one isn't quite ready for prime time. If I can polish it up before the end of the month, I might make a second contribution.)

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

@KindaScratchy That was great!! Yep, May is all about the flowers! My garden is starting to burst with flowers.

June weddings?

Every girlfriend my husband had, before we met, that he gave cut flowers to broke up with him. He has NEVER given me cut flowers, but since I am a gardener he has bought truck loads of flowers for me to plant!! It will be 38 years on May 7th.

Thanks, folks. Good guess, @Schaick, but @Uzi wins. Mayflowers bring pilgrims. https://fiddlerman.com/wp-content/forum-smileys/rofl.gif

Yeah, Barry. I know I play too close to the tip a lot of the time. Don't know why. I've run out of bow on a few occasions. Gotta work on that.

Speaking of bowing, my self-critique is that I don't use enough bow on the introduction (which, by the way, is the B part played slowly). My excuse is that I was tense while recording, tension leads to bow bounce and I subconsciously minimize that by shortening my bow strokes. Gotta get over that.

And I meant to say, great job @Barry and @Schaick!

I like Cluck Old Hen a lot. I play that, too, though not nearly as well. It's one tune, though, where I'm able to throw in a few bluegrassy slides.

I've never heard that May Song before. Call me crazy, but doesn't it sound like a slightly more complex variation on Twinkle?

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.
