Yeah....  I was thinking (very roughly) of a Burn's Night (late Jan), Belated-Valentines day - (late Feb), Mad March Hatters day and so on....   just an idea - I know we do our local parties on the forum, just thought it would be fun to try to set up something a bit more regular on SJ because I know it can be difficult for many to participate in any one event on a specific date - this would give more options for folks I guess - and if it gets re-incarnated as FiddleFest - all well and good.   LOL - what's more - it would kind of force me into specifically learning a new tune a month - I get distracted FAR too easily and now have many dozens of tunes I just "partly play" - but that's good as well - it all brings different timings and rhythms etc etc into what I do....   OK, stop wittering-on Bill.... LOL - let's just see what unfolds....

Bumped.... on 4th November

FiddleFest15.JPGImage Enlarger

LOOK OUT !!!   It's only 18 days till the 22nd - make your plans now for FiddleFest, on http://www.streetjelly.com on the 22nd November!

Just a reminder - in spite of the term "Fiddle" in the title - this get-together is for any and all bowed string instrument players, be it violin, viola, cello or electric versions thereof !!.

And "Fiddle" just means "Violin" - you don't have to play traditional fiddle music - classical, modern, blues and jazz etc... music pieces are all extremely welcome.

Come and join us - all levels, all genres, all bowed strings welcome !!!!

If you haven't done so yet - and would like to take part - book a slot on SteetJelly on the 22nd November, and put "FiddleFest xx mins" ( xx typically 30 minutes, but, it can be as little or as much as you are happy with ) in your item description so you can be easily spotted to avoid time-clashes with other FiddleFest participants.

So far, I see no-one else has as yet booked a slot, here's a starter for 10 - note - if you are unfamiliar with SJ scheduling - it shows the performance time in your local time - I have picked a 30 minute slot at 10:00 am GMT - how that will appear in other international time-zones well, just check the SJ schedule to find out....

I've scheduled my time slot...8:00 pm EST on 11/22.

@BillyG : Your show appears to be at 5:00 am my time, so I will probably miss it. :(

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Nice Diane, thanks for joining in  - I shall miss yours as well unfortunately, because yours is 01:00am Monday morning for me - had it been a day earlier, sure, I could have run an "all-nighter" LOL.

No matter, it's the taking part that counts !  All good !

LOL - if it says 2am in your timezone, yup, that'll be absolutely correct !

Depending on numbers finally "attending" ( doing shows ) if numbers are low, I plan to slot in a second show, probably around 8 hrs later - but that will be a very "last-minute" sort of thing and just an attempt to keep-things-alive... LOL

I should be able to stay up to catch yours - that'll be 11pm here - THANK YOU for signing up !!!!! cposj.JPG

I had the privilege to watch one of these get togethers and I was so impressed and proud of everyone who performed. I can stress how beneficial it is to participate or just show up and listen. Feels like a family thing and it's inspiring as well. Hope there is a great turnout.

Just to be clear, it will be on Sunday the 22nd of November right?

A bit confused about the times but Bill, you are playing at 5AM ET, Toni 6PM ET and Diane at 8PM ET???

@Fiddlerman - Pierre - the images I clipped to show myself, Toni and Diane were clipped from the StreetJelly "performances" window - and - clever old StreetJelly shows performance times in your LOCAL TIMEZONE - so I see them as GMT ( which actually puts Diane at 1:00am Monday 23rd for me sleep! )

To be 100% sure about it for where-ever anyone is - look for the performances on StreetJelly, from your own computer - and you'll see the times corrected for YOU !

cheers

That is what I did. I checked the schedule on the page but was not sure if it's automatically changing the time zone for us. I guess the answer is no. All times are written in GMT
You are at midnight for me, Toni is at 1PM, Diane is at 3PM. :)

Ohhhh - that is strange - I have clearly been mis-informed, or simply mis-understood it....   hmmmm

Odd.. because when I get e-mail notifications, like when someone I have marked as a favorite, sets a schedule, I receive an e-mail, and the e-mail gives the time of their performance in THEIR local time - so I have to go away and work it out - BUT - when I view it on the site "performances" (main page) window - it gives it in "my" time (GMT) - so I assumed (probably incorrectly) that it was "correcting" for me....   or maybe it only does that for "registered artists" as distinct from "guests/visitors" ....  dunno - I'll maybe ask Frankie....

That's probably where my confusion came from....

What I saw, was awesome, thank you to all performers !    But, I have to apologise, it was a long, long day for me, and I fell asleep in the chair just towards the end of Barry's set..... (no, it wasn't boredom, Barry man!  Just getting back at yah for the "clap joke" LOLOLOL) - so I missed a LOT of stuff.   Makes me feel bad in a way, because I know some of you got up or stayed-up really early to catch me - thanks for the support !

Here, I believe, are all the contributors - sorry if anyone else "sneaked in" and isn't mentioned .... image made by Toni -  thanks, Toni !

I was seriously impressed by everyone.

I feel really bad that I woke up after your performance and that hasn't been happening for over a week. In other words, I slept an extra hour. Woke up at 5:30AM

I was sad for Diane for having technical issues but impressed by her perseverance. Diane did her show anyway though it was at a later time and I got to catch a little of it. She did great though there was an obvious technical issue with her equipment.

Unfortunately I fell asleep and missed Brian and Georganne.

I'm really glad I found the time to be there because you guys are fantastic. I also love the way you support and encourage each other. Thanks!!!

I'm sorry that I missed some of the shows, but I caught the end of Feathers', most of CDennyB's and a half hour of Jazz_Mandolin's. I enjoyed them all very much and I know I would have enjoyed the others, too.

I was extremely frustrated by my technical issues. I was set up a half hour in advance and thought everything was working fine but apparently, I forgot to check the sound indicator on the screen.

The problem appears to have been a browser issue. After trying a bunch of stuff -- including rebooting -- I finally tried switching from Firefox to Chrome, and all of a sudden I had sound.

I understand that there was still some sort of hum, which I think may have been coming from the small wireless mic that I was using as a secondary mic to pick up the speakers I use for my backing tracks. It may have been picking up some interference from my USB interface; I had laid the mic on top of it...probably a bad idea.

Many thanks to those who stopped in and listened despite the bad sound. And thanks to Bill and Barry for organizing another SJ FiddleFest!

Following the success of @Barry 's annual FiddleFest, I'm keen to encourage more folks to take the opportunity to "Busk on the Jelly" - and to that end I'm planning to establish a more-frequent set of performances.

I'm calling them "Fiddle On..." SJ sessions - and although I won't be able to arrange one per month I'd like to aim for say - no more than 6 weeks apart - that would be good.   Setting up this more-frequent arrangement should also allow other folks, who for personal or work reasons simply cannot manage to join in the annual FiddleFest event.

The first one is scheduled for Sat 30th Jan 2016 - a belated tribute to Burns Night (would have been the 25th) - but - as the invite below suggests - it's just a ceilidh - play anything you want - doesn't have to be by Rabbie Burns or even anything Scottish...   pick up those fiddles and practice !

burns-banner.JPGImage Enlarger

As ever, this is planned to cover a 24 hour period - I've scheduled two slots 8am GMT and 8pm GMT - so go ahead and jump in whenever you want - and above all - have fun !

Oh - it is assumed your sessions would be 30 minutes - if you plan playing for longer (or shorter) - add that to your headline - like "Fiddle On... 20 mins" just so other folks can schedule around you...
