Rabbie Burns, Fiddlestix. He was a poet/songwriter who wrote Auld Lang Syne. Traditionally people celebrate with a Supper, eating haggis n neeps (yuck) with lots of whiskey but now it's more of an excuse (as if we need one) to have a wee party.
I'm sure @BillyG will have more to say on the subject.
Edit: wrong name.

Hello Bill.. what a fun event. I hope to make it. I am at the office (jail) until 2 pm California time... so I don't know what I can do... we shall see.
Good luck everyone and happy playing.
Toni
Ps.. I don't have a single Scottish tune in my repertoire (gasp... shameful..
)

coolpinkone Just so as I can make some kind of attempt to fit-in with timings for my friends States-side - I've booked two slots, 12 hrs apart - hope you can make one of them ! ( at a guess, the first will be around 1 or 2am for you, and the second is 12 hrs later, around early afternoon for you - with my limited repertoire - it will be the same set ) - tell you what - if you DO have a chance to play later in your day there - book a slot anyway and I promise to stay up for it - I'm already doing 10pm my-time to catch @KindaScratchy - so since I'll be still awake then, I can surely manage a few more hours LOLOL !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

Thank you Bill... that is ever so sweet. I will see what I can come up with. I have a lot of songs.. zero back tracks that I play with... We shall see what I can do.
I have time this afternoon to look into some things... I have a high elevation trail run tomorrow.... I don't know how sore I will be this week. I have a few things this week after work also... (i know.. excuses excuses).. But anyway.. we will see.
Thanks so much for putting this together.
Cheers.

All good for the StreetJelly "Fiddle On..." session tomorrow then, for folks who can make it ?
So far we have solid commitments to play from myself, Diane, Barry and Ripton. Toni is a possible - and I know a few folks often manage to "leap in" at the last minute what with work / family / life etc getting in the way - join us if you can, as a player or listener - all good and all welcome. See you there !

Any more fiddlers around for "Fiddle On..." ? Thanks so much to all who have participated so far - we've had myself (3 sessions!), Ron, Barry, Diane so far - there's a couple more to come later ( Brian and Ripton ) - I'm going to do my best to stay up into the wee small hours of Sunday morning to catch you - if I fall asleep - I apologise in advance. And also a BIG THANKS to the audience - thanks for your support.... @Leana @Barry @coolpinkone @fiddlestix @cdennyb and anyone else I missed out there...
I think Barry is playing guitar later - but there's at least a two, possibly 3 hour gap - anyone wanna pick up that fiddle - like NOW (this instant) and play ? LOL ( no pressure ! )
Thank you everyone for taking part or just being in the audience, really appreciated, and I'll post a final update later!
The next one will be "Fiddle On... Valentines day" - work on those love songs folks.... LOL

That was fun listening to @KindaScratchy yesterday (except for the internet going down for me in the middle, but it came back) I have to work on finding out how things work there- did more people (from the group) play after her ? huh, @BillyG ?
I swear- someday I will be playing as well as my imagination

... @Ripton was scheduled later ( 2am Sunday morning my time - and - yes - in case I dropped-off I had set the alarm on my 'phone. Unfortunately, I did fall asleep in the chair, but it turns out I had left the darned phone in my jacket pocket - IN THE CAR hmmm - so I can't tell you !!! I feel terrible about that !!! - but - apparently as I heard later, SJ had a technical problem - so I don;t know exactly what happened or who else joined in...). There'll be another one VERY soon ( Fiddle On... Valentines Day ) - I'll advertise it in the next day or so....

Oh, I'm sorry I missed out watching everyone! I had a migraine that made me spend most of the day in a quiet and dark room, only popping out into the world every now and then.![]()
Sorry to hear that Mandy - hope it has passed.....

Thanks for the "thanks" folks - it's appreciated. Yes - it is great fun to do these things and, as @Ripton says - can be "motivational"
Thoughts about this, please, potential Fiddle On... participants ( oh - and / or potential viewers - it affects you as well )
I had intended a Fiddle On... Valentines Day. As it happens, Feb 14th is indeed a weekend - and there will possibly be a lot of either parties, other events, folks just going out for a "special weekend" LOL. It is also only 2 weeks away - so I was maybe thinking of delaying it until the end of the month (overlapping Sat 27th into Sun 28th) and in an attempt to retain the "original idea" of a main theme of love-songs - maybe just refer to it as "Ladies Night" - where we (lads) play some romantic tunes for the lassies ( doesn't have to be anything terribly special - think of some of your old favorites and "stretch the point a bit" - Red River Valley, Tennessee waltz ) - and of course, the lassies can play what they like - it's their night after all !
I mean to say - RRV - that works !!!!
"For a long time, my darling, I've waited
For the sweet words you never would say
Now at last all my fond hopes have vanished
For they say that you're going away" <<<< improvise, and make that fiddle WEEP with DESPAIR at that point - hahaha -
Even "Red Wing" -
"Now, the moon shines tonight on pretty Red Wing
The breeze is sighing, the night bird's crying,
For afar 'neath his star her brave is sleeping,
While Red Wing's weeping her heart away."
it's all good !!!! See, it's EASY..... so - lads - don't let the theme put you off !!!!
Any preferences out there regarding the date and time of the event ? Let me know.
Oh, personally, as the event organizer, I prefer to do these things spanning - in UK time - a Sat / Sun just like the last one - simply because it's OK for me to stay up into the wee small hours of a Sunday morning to catch most of you playing late on your Saturday evening, rather than having to stay up till beyond 2 or 3 am on a Monday morning - which is not at all good LOL for the old grey-cells at the start of the week - but that's just my preference.
A decision needs to be made soon, I'll let this sit for a day or so to await feedback, and, if there is no obvious preference, I'll just make the call myself and take an "executive decision"
Thanks guys....
