So this is something I am tinkering with as a practice help. I don't know if it is actually useful as a visual aid. The files are attached below. I think Rosined Up sent me the two charts.

I've included a link to Fiddlermans' first position fingering chart.
https://fiddlerman.com/fiddle-.....ard-chart/

I am using a tuner to help find the notes in other positions.

This shows it represented in sheet music notation:
http://www.violinonline.com/fi.....vanced.htm

Also attached is the violinonline.com's fingerboard chart.

I wish to extend a belated but heartfelt Thank You to Rosined Up for his valuable contributions to the content of this thread. I also wish it to be know that this post has been modified from its origional form and its content formatted to fit your screen. Some material may have been cut to save time.

You've been playing music how long?

How about trying to do it yourself with pencil and paper?    You can use any drawing program, if you want to make it nice.  And it's not rocket science. The links you showed already give you a good start.  Here is another: http://www.violinonline.com/fi.....rt.htm   And by now you ought to know about key signatures and the chromatic scale.  I think that's really all you need to construct the charts yourself.

I don't mean to insult you or anyone.  I do feel that if this is a big deal to you, maybe you aren't ready to leave first position.

Hey Robert.. I think those type charts would be very useful. I like to review stuff like that on my down  time..on my ipad, in line at the store, at work on calls and stuff like that.  I will check around for what I can see.  I am hoping to move forward with you in this direction.  Keep up the good work and motivation.

Everyone learns differently with different tools... I know I am one of those that has a bit of a different way to learn.  2014... is gonna be GOOD!!!

Cheers

In his original post on this thread, Picklefish asked people to make third- and fifth-position fingerboard charts for him.  In my first post above, I pointed out that there wasn't much to it, and that he ought to try it himself.  Then he took the link I provided, edited his original post to include that material (namely a diagram of the whole fingerboard), and wiped out his original question, so that the thread doesn't fit together now.

It's not infrequent that I edit my own posts, but usually it's to improve clarity.  I may silently fix an actual error if no one has mentioned it or seemed to have noticed it yet.  If someone has responded, I try to avoid changing a post in a way that makes hash of their response or of the thread generally. For some people, it isn't mainly about learning or teaching or improving or treating people fairly, it's about getting attention and making themselves look good, and if that means short cuts, deception, covering their tracks, and making the other guy look worse than he is, well, they're sort of okay with that.  The saddest part is when they don't care whether they are caught doing that kind of thing.

PF one-starred my posts where I provided a link to a fingerboard chart.  Then he edited the OP to include the fingerboard chart from the link that I provided.

I should have learned by now, when conversing with some people in a way that might turn controversial, to quote their message in full.  Ha ha, actually I did know it quite awhile back, but PF was inactive on the forum for quite awhile, so I'd forgotten it.

@Rosined Up- I appologize for not crediting you when I added the resource you provided to the origional post to make it easier for people to find. The upload program included the picture automatically as I intended to only include it as a link at the bottom. I liked it so I left it. This way people can get all the information at the top without having to read all the posts.

I too forgot about your need to promote yourself.

This was only intended to help people who might find the information useful.

As always I appreciate your input. Part of my spiritual growth.

But you did credit me, so I don't know what you're going on about.  Crediting me is not what my most recent post was about.

It was mainly about you abusing the forum's edit feature.  And it's hard to feign appreciation or realize any good spiritual growth when you one-star everything that provides you a conscience.

Alright, let's shake hands and just leave it alone....
I am presently trying to figure out the problem with uploaded files.... Still a mystery to me.

There isnt any problem with this file upload, by default a img tag is created to display the image in the post. I forgot to delete it. Then I liked the display so I left it. For video files a default object placeholder is created.

When I upload an image the image is not displayed unless I choose the image from the file manager. It used to do it automatically. Now the posts show [image not found] automatically and I need to figure out why this is happening. :-)

@Picklefish awh, thank you!

I just get a lot of nice help here and I like to give it back.

I thank  you for all your help already this year in helping with goals, and getting the group together for other projects.  For being a good support to some of the new members.  Thank you.

And mostly thank you for getting me out of my shell enough to actually perform for three of  you on live chat... that was a milestone for me and you kind of coaxed it out of me and  I felt so proud even though I was shaking and it was pretty bad. :)

Keep up the good work!  Don't shy away!

That is a great idea, the performing thing. Maybe we can organize a channel somewhere where members perform live online. Any suggestions? I may even be able to find time for "master classes". :-)

I would so love this, a few of us have managed to connect using Google Hangouts, from the Google Plus platform. It has been very good. Juanfiddler and I chat and play several times a week using it. I noticed you have a google plus account as well.

Google Hangouts is a great idea!  Used it for quite some time now for work meetings etc.  Would love to get in on a session here and there so long as I can get practicing more and become a bit better lol.

I have an account but really haven't used it that much. Feel free to add me and we'll figure it out. :-)

So I thought I would attach my revised practice sheet. Revised? yes, I don't believe that it should be set in stone. Instead it should reflect what your true goals are, what a realistic time frame is and be flexible to allow for what you have learned and discovered. (run-on sentence sorry).
Any ways, I also read an interesting blog this morning about what one person does with their scales routine and I liked it enough to try to incorporate it into my practices to see if its something I could benefit from. I know these are all things I need to and want to improve upon and if there already exists a super efficient way to accomplish that then I am on board.

Tonight I start my monthly private lessons with a online teacher, at less than $7 per 30 min lesson for once a month I could not pass that up!

I have also learned from myself that third position is not so bad! A bit of a challenge to remember the whole steps and half steps at first, but I am learning where all the notes are and not relying so much on the finger patterns.

Church Orchestra starts back up today and since I am all healed up, back at it I go. Fortunately they offer the sheet music online with backing tracks so a big chunk of my time in the mornings will now be dissecting the music and learning the hard stuff the best I can..

Fiddling is confounding me! Mostly because of the fingerings for double stops and my not really sure how to do them at any speed. Another challenge for the perfectionist in me....
