On the subject of grandkids, 7 is a lot (to me) & all mine seem to really enjoy music.
A while back, a member here told a story about a family that sent only one child, who had showed the most improvement, to the next fiddle lesson. Whichever child went to the lesson had to teach the other(s) when he returned home - the challenge/motivation it created was wonderful.
My grandkids are home-schooled, ALL love music & try to play the little 25-note piano I have sitting out - but none of them are willing to try going for lessons on their own. The whole 'home-school' thing is just so foreign to any of my experience (not completely sold on it) - so it's hard for me to judge what's best.
I've been seriously thinking of looking for a violin teacher that would be willing to come to our house (don't know if Daughter is up for it at her house) & teach the kids 'as a class'. It might also be more tempting to them if I get my hands on a couple more small violins (have 2) - no one wants to be left out, but some will still have to share.
...couldn't even think of doing this during covid.
Don't know how many class lessons I'll be able to afford (have no idea what it might cost), but the kids are more likely to pay attention to someone outside the family & even a few lessons might be enough to get them started. Maybe a couple of the kids will let me know if they want to learn more at that time.
...daunting to add anything more to what I already have on my plate, but I hate to miss this opportunity while they are young.
Just wondering if anyone has thought of doing this.

We're homeschooling as well. With my older one we just went with the recorder thing as far as music was concerned, she had no interest in anything music whatsoever, but at least now can read some music. My younger one seems to be interested in music, great, but since we live in 'a cultural whole' it seem, no private music teachers unless you go 60 mi in either direction, lol.
Anyway, depending on where you live there might be homeschool coops that have music lessons/teachers. HSLDA has a list of some groups, but I'm not sure if you have to be a member to accesss the list.
In hindsight, maybe sometimes kids have to be nudged into music lessons.
What you said about having them taught as a group sounds interesting, you could always ask about cost and go from there.
It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself. Johann S.Bach

@AnnyJ -
Thanks!
I was thinking about seeing what music help was available specifically for homeschooling here - glad you made that point.
There is a place that advertises violin lessons not too far from me - still need to find where I can have my little fiddles checked over/sound posts adjusted, first. I'll have to check with them.
I still have to talk over the 'home class' idea with my Daughter, after I get all my info together. I'm only hesitant because I'd like to observe something of how someone teaches kids, beforehand - just like to know attitudes won't get in the way of my grandkids' experience, but I'm not in a position to do that right now. 😉
