Well, I am trying to not spend so much time looking at my fingers when I play my viola, violin and cello.

Today, I figured out that my chinrests, none of them, will work comfortably in the position I am trying to be in so I am looking more at my chinrest, and trying to rely on memory for the fingering.

I just ordered the Fiddlerman Freedom Chinrest for violin with the barrels so I can use it on my 15 1/2" Soloist Viola. I was looking at it and paying attention to how it was when it was used in a video. It looks like it will work. We will see. If I like it, I might get one for my violin so I can stop looking at my fingers when using that.

I love the chinrest I ordered with my viola, but with the change up, it does not seem to allow me to do what I want. I was getting a little jaw discomfort, probably would lead to pain, when I angled the viola so I could actually read the music and not always watch my fingers.

I am very serious about being able to find and play on 1st position without looking. I know it will make 3rd position a lot more doable if I can always know where I am on the fingerboard.

I am still experimenting with both the chin and shoulder rests. I seem to have settled, at least for the time, with a centered chin rest. Can't really get to a place with the shoulder rest. Lost my Bon Musica but have a drawer full of chin rests. Just wish the shoulders were not quite as expensive. facepalm

The shoulder rest part is an issue. I have the Bon Musica. I might have to go back to that. I use it and put it away. Use it and put it away. It is weird. I always go back to it.
