Don't think I've shared this. 

I've griped about not having a better selection of lower strings (in other threads).  

I originally wanted octave strings, then decided I could be very happy with a low 'F' string, if I could get one for my 16" Viola.  

I actually found a place in France with something unique - custom handmade strings!  Offering strings for tenor violin, viols, violoncello da Spalla, etc...

They talk about how in earlier string history, luthiers had a spinning wheel in the back of the shop!!!  

Atelier Boussoir Strings - "Custom made production of Spinning Chords"!  

 

...idk, I'm tempted - but they aren't cheap & seems risky mixing handmade with machine-made tone.  🤔
