It would be a massive project, and there are a lot of original posts that have been saved there. They have not been deleted.

Trying to sort it all out to make sense here would be huge and mess it up.

The names of all the original posters would be changed to, "guest" because they are not members here. I think that even our posts from Violaman would be changed to "guest", also, because a member there does not make you a member here.ย

I think it would be disrespectful to those who started Violaman to have it pulled from underneath them. It is not just a matter of moving the posts.

It would also kill links in posts, especially in those posts where someone has referenced another post, via link.

Just my thoughts on it.ย

And just in case this is suggested, linking them is ย bad idea. The spamming here would be added to Violaman. I often think, when cleaning this forum, "I am so glad Violaman is not linked to this forum." Just a thought from someone who deals with the spam and organizing. Also, if one site has an issue, it would probably affect the other if linked.

I kind of think that "take it into the yard and shoot it", is a little harsh, although I know it is meant as humor, but I read it as a little harsh. Others may not.

A lot of work goes into it, and nobody is forced to go there. You don't have to join to view the info. It is no different than going to another site for info.ย

I prefer the pointed focus on viola and cello on Violaman for my viola information.

Most of the folks posting on Violaman are also members here.ย

I think there are more folks who play BOTH Violin and Viola, than just Viola.ย

About the only thing different about learning Viola vs Violin is the clef.ย ย

Just makes sense to include Viola learning & playing here.ย ย ย

We can ALL learn from each other - but (forgive my ignorance) is there a server/storage size restricting the merger of the 2 forums?ย

ย

It's probably more important to ask active members of Violaman if they'd like to be included here & what they'd like to see addressed here as part of this forum.ย

Little things that could change here would be to include Violaman tutorials & resources, plus... maybe time to add Viola & Cello to the slogan of "Learn to Play The Violin For Free".ย ย

Maybe there's a way to sync profiles with Google(?)ย  'Willing' Violaman members could have posts/threads copied to this forum.ย  Inter-forum links may suffer, but recent ones could be fixed, then address others as needed.ย  It's not like we don't have links that also die here/need upkeep - some are outdated/no longer available & others are disabled by the poster. ย

The main points against violaman being: -

a) there's viola stuff here, and

b) as you've observed, the violaman site contains cello discussions.

I asked here because I guessed, rightly or wrongly everyone on violaman would be a member here.

If violaman plays second fiddle to Fiddlerman.com, forgive that metaphor, then the lone violists in violaman.com might be feeling their loneliness even more.

BTW, I haven't voted yet!

We used to have more Viola AND Cello topics here (5-6 years ago) & more integrated discussions.ย

It was nice... I miss it.ย

Combining forums will not change that. Forums are not used much anymore.ย

When I updated it, I added cello to it.

There are more non-Fiddle Talk members there, than Fiddle Talk members.

I like the separated viola and cello info. It is a lot less confusing for me. When I get back to viola, hopefully next week, I will be using it more. I find mixing the viola and cello with the violin is confusing, at times, I like the "quietness" for the viola and cello there, I do not feel lonely.ย

BTW, I haven't voted yet!

ย ย

People visit multiple sites to get information. There is no big deal about going to Violaman for information on viola or cello any more than there is to google viola or cello and find other places for information. It is no different.

I guess no one read the issues of merging them, above, also.ย

It's probably more important to ask [all] active members of Violaman if they'd like to be included here & what they'd like to see addressed here as part of this forum.ย

Members of Violaman should be made aware of the growing number of Fiddlerman members that also play/or are learning Viola & Cello... maybe even 5-string Violins & Violas.ย

Forums are very much aliveโ€”theyโ€™ve simply adapted. Theyโ€™ve moved from standalone sites to platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and niche communities that cater to specific interests.

The core reason forums are still thriving is that they allow for deep, organized discussions. Unlike social media feeds where conversations get lost in the noise, forums provide a structured way to engage, share knowledge, and revisit old threads.

Whether itโ€™s a tech support question, a gaming forum, or a professional community, forums offer something uniqueโ€”a place for ongoing, in-depth dialogue. (Are Online Forums Dead? Mar 31, 2025)

@ELCBK This is not up to us. As a member of both, I like them separate. You are free to go there and read posts, join, or not. But, as a member of Violaman for many years, I do like to be able to go there and just be there. It is quieter, and a nice site to go to. I love this site, but it is "noisier" than Violaman. When I want to read info, I go to Violaman. I am not saying literal noise, just the feel, etc. I am not the only Violaman member who feels this way.

One article, or a few articles, do not speak for everyone. And, that has nothing to do with keeping Violaman separate.

Google cannot be used to transfer all the information and keep from having all those founding members' posts from being relegated to "guest".

Links are not kept up by us. People remove ,inks because they do not want their videos, or whatever is linked to, up forever. I don't. Many pass away and their YouTubes are closed, etc. It happens. Links get old and no longer work, or are set for a certain amount of time.ย

I am a member of both, and I seriously do not want them combined. That is why I joined Violaman quite a few years again, and why I volunteered to clean it up and keep it up. I also have put a lot of time, effort and work into Violaman, Just saying.ย

First of all, I didn't start this thread & my opinion matters diddly, except that I enjoy hearing the thoughts/views of Violists and Cellists - as well as Violinists.

I do feel bad if folks wanting to learn to play the Viola (or Cello) don't feel comfortable here, or feel they have nothing in common (or of interest) to discuss/contribute here on this forum.ย ย

No need for feeling bad. We are all very happy here on Fiddle Talk and Violaman. Both are good for the soul.

Wait a minute! The poll is off. As far as I know there are not 6 Fiddle Talk members who are also Violaman members. Seems to me if you do not belong to Violaman, no reason to say to "shoot it". How can a non-member say to take it away from those who do use it? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ Seriously, this is in jest, just odd.

I don't like raw onions, beer, dry wines, most wines, so, I do not use them. So, I say get rid of them. Cool. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh well, enough fun. Finished my chocolate pudding pie, off to give my cello a shot.
