Most of the folks posting on Violaman are also members here.ย
I think there are more folks who play BOTH Violin and Viola, than just Viola.ย
About the only thing different about learning Viola vs Violin is the clef.ย ย
Just makes sense to include Viola learning & playing here.ย ย ย
We can ALL learn from each other - but (forgive my ignorance) is there a server/storage size restricting the merger of the 2 forums?ย
ย
It's probably more important to ask active members of Violaman if they'd like to be included here & what they'd like to see addressed here as part of this forum.ย
Little things that could change here would be to include Violaman tutorials & resources, plus... maybe time to add Viola & Cello to the slogan of "Learn to Play The Violin For Free".ย ย
Maybe there's a way to sync profiles with Google(?)ย 'Willing' Violaman members could have posts/threads copied to this forum.ย Inter-forum links may suffer, but recent ones could be fixed, then address others as needed.ย It's not like we don't have links that also die here/need upkeep - some are outdated/no longer available & others are disabled by the poster. ย

The main points against violaman being: -
a) there's viola stuff here, and
b) as you've observed, the violaman site contains cello discussions.
I asked here because I guessed, rightly or wrongly everyone on violaman would be a member here.
If violaman plays second fiddle to Fiddlerman.com, forgive that metaphor, then the lone violists in violaman.com might be feeling their loneliness even more.
BTW, I haven't voted yet!

It's probably more important to ask [all] active members of Violaman if they'd like to be included here & what they'd like to see addressed here as part of this forum.ย
Members of Violaman should be made aware of the growing number of Fiddlerman members that also play/or are learning Viola & Cello... maybe even 5-string Violins & Violas.ย
Forums are very much aliveโtheyโve simply adapted. Theyโve moved from standalone sites to platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and niche communities that cater to specific interests.
The core reason forums are still thriving is that they allow for deep, organized discussions. Unlike social media feeds where conversations get lost in the noise, forums provide a structured way to engage, share knowledge, and revisit old threads.
Whether itโs a tech support question, a gaming forum, or a professional community, forums offer something uniqueโa place for ongoing, in-depth dialogue. (Are Online Forums Dead? Mar 31, 2025)

First of all, I didn't start this thread & my opinion matters diddly, except that I enjoy hearing the thoughts/views of Violists and Cellists - as well as Violinists.
I do feel bad if folks wanting to learn to play the Viola (or Cello) don't feel comfortable here, or feel they have nothing in common (or of interest) to discuss/contribute here on this forum.ย ย
ย
But, as a member of Violaman for many years, I do like to be able to go there and just be there. It is quieter, and a nice site to go to. I love this site, but it is "noisier" than Violaman. When I want to read info, I go to Violaman. I am not saying literal noise, just the feel, etc. I am not the only Violaman member who feels this way.ย
ย
I can take a hint...ย
