I'd like to get the sound of an acoustic violin without causing too much noise in my thin-walled apartment. I am considering muting an acoustic-electric violin and listening to the sound via a headphone port, but I can't find any acoustic-electric violins with built-in amplified headphone ports. Alternatively, could I use a normal acoustic violin and attach both a mute and a pickup with a headphone port? Would the sound through the headphones be "acoustic-like"?

First of all you can get a mini pre-amp with a headset jack like this one.

I have no idea of the quality of that one, just found it on Amazon. There are plenty of multi effect boxes that have the external jack which would surely suit your purpose.

You can do it the other way too but which pickup that you know of has a headset jack?

The sound that you would get might be similar to a muted violin but as loud as you want when the volume is cranked up. Not speaking from experience since I have never tried it though.
